So I recently had a discussion with a buddy about naming bikes.

I have been in the superstitious habit of giving all of mine well thought out (or so I think) names once I have had them for a while and give them enough use.

Is anyone as neurotic about picking the 'right' name for their bikes?

What have I named my bikes? I'm glad you asked...:D

    In order of ownership:
    1992 Yamaha XJ600 Seca II
Cricket - she chirped like one when I was on the brakes.

    2003 Yamaha R6 (Sliver/Black)
Alana - was my first R6 that I lusted after (silver and black) named after the really subdued beautiful girl in my HS

    2000 Yamaha R6 Race Bike
Samara - named after the girl in the ring cause the bike kept trying to kill me

    1984 Honda XR250 pit bike
Daisy Duke - Speaks for itself

    2006 Yamaha R6 Race Bike
Persephone - was a brand new off the floor raven R6 before i tracked her. Reference to the greek mythology story cause of her 'dark' side

    Jezebel - 2002 Yamaha R6 Race Bike
She got around. 5 friends had her before I did.

    Amelia - 2006 BMW R1200GS
My first (and dream) adventure bike. Who else to name her after that would be more fitting than one of the most adventurous women in history?

2009 KLR650 - "the mule". It isn't fast, it isn't good looking, but it is somewhat surefooted and (more or less) hauls my fat ass and my stuff anywhere I point it.

My Aprilia Dorsoduro 750, in passionate Italian red, is named after this middleweight Sopranos character:

    Furio
    [IMG]

He's calm and collected, as Italians go, but he can get things done.

the '02 Bonneville was also obvious - Bonny

The Royal Enfield was "that Indian POS"

Never named any of the Hondas but called the CB750 "Kips bike" because he sold it to me.

Have not named the TW yet but I don't know it yet

My wife always names her vehicles. I only name mine if a name really suggests itself. I don't go out of my way to come up with one, and some of them get names and some don't.

Of my current herd, the Ducati Monster is named "Patina", because she's got one.
The Heinkel is named "Elroy J" because it has that sort of retro-futuristic look of the Jetsons.
The Vespa and the Maico and the parts bikes do not have names.

My wife started the trend, and now we name everything. Even out indoor plants have names.

    67 Bonnie - Livia
    68 Tiger - Ruby
    73 CB750 - Sophie
07 Bonnie with a cargo hack - Fanny
11 Ural Gear Up - Boris

And the rest of the fleet
07 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - Rufus
    10 Kia Soul - Kim-chi
    Brenderup trailer - Uli
    Homebuilt trailer - Rusty

    And the list goes on...

Sent from the voices in my head, and transcribed by their drinking buddy.

Only the Ducati Streetfighter is named, and is "Sleipnir".

In Norse mythology, Sleipnir is Odin's 8-legged war horse, and is an appropriate name, considering its performance.

I do name my bikes but in reality I usually refer to them by either their color or model designation.

I call my K1100LT "The Alien" because of all of the lights I've got on it.

I call my K1100RS "Kato" because of the action figure I have mounted on it:

I call my K75 the "K75F" because it's a Frankenbrick built from the ground up with parts from lord knows how different years and models of K bikes.

I call my other K1100RS the "$300 bike" because I scored it on CL for $500 and sold the bags for $200 so that was my net cost.

    I call my K1 "The K1."

I've had my blue FJR for about two months now, and already have 5,000 miles on her. But she doesn't have a name, yet, though. However, choosing a name is something I seriously ponder when I'm riding.

Right now I'm trying to decide between "Blue Angel" and "Blue Bomber." Not sure I like either name. Yet. We'll see if one name grows on me, or if something else occurs to me.
