anyone out there mounted the Lynx fairing from britannia composites to a DR650 with the 30L safari tank? any fitment issues with interference between the two?
I installed the gsxr pipe as much for weight savings as performance. It helped in both areas. It isn't louder than stock except for the occasional backfire, which is loud and was suppressed by the baffles in the stock system. I'm told you have to live with it when you use the stock carb but it should be considered at least from the noise factor.
Hi everyone! My first post on this thread but a lot of time reading. I bougth a complete stock DR'99 to build a long trip bike. Quite difficult in Spain as there's hardly stuff for this bike. Thanks to LukasM, who gently sold me some of his parts. Before: After: Not very happy with engine performance, maybe I didn't mount the DRC87 clutch properly. Does someone have installed one of those clutches? Any pic? Regards to all
I spoke to IMS about all the problems I've had with self-destructing cap gaskets (3 in 18 months). They had a new design just being completed and offered to send me one for $10 when ready. I received it recently and it does look like an improvement that should eliminate the problems. The "rubber" gasket has shrunken down to just a ring where the cap contacts the rim of the tank filler. The "baffle" cylinder, that was previously a "rubber" material that included a sealing ring, is now hard plastic and molded as part of the cap. Here's what it looks like: It looks like a good solution. Worth $10 to have a reliable cap. No more fishing rubber bits out of my tank every 6 months!!
Good luck with the new cap. I had problems with my original one also. I no longer have IMS's phone number. Will you please post their phone contact number on this thread for the rest of us to use? Thanks TravelGuy
Am going to do a full inspection of my electrical harness this weekend to check for any issues such as rubbing, wearing, exposed wires, rust, crud, etc. Is there anything to keep an eye out for while removing it from the frame? And I guess a good dose of contact cleaner on all the contacts. Any other tips? Yes, I'm going to put dielectric grease when reconnecting it back together. thanx
DRC87 is just an EBC clutch kit for the DR650 isn't it? If it isn't slipping under load, dragging excessively with the lever pulled in when stationary in gear or making horrible noises any other time, engages smoothly and you followed the install instructions, then you probably got it right. The DR650 is not a rocket to start with. I suspect that yours is just feeling "flat". If you clean the carb, raise the needle one notch (shims are for US bikes or bikes with fixed needles), remove the snorkel (optional), remove the tamper plug and adjust the idle screw it should improve. Is the exhaust still stock? I couldn't make it out in the "after" photograph. If not it may need further jetting adjustments. Also, check that the bike does not have any form of restrictor if you haven't already.
Ok, I'll correct myself. Buy an after market exhaust, you do get more power, just don't get anything that says race core...
The GSX-R muffler is hardly after market. So far there has not been any after market muffler that I have seen or heard that I think I could tolerate for any length of time. The GSX-R muffler has been worth the effort.
+1. I am not a fan of loud pipes on bikes. I love my GSXR can. A little deeper tone more flow and no noticable difference over stock on the open road. Sound wise in the helmet anyways.
01-02 GSXR 1000 can is the one to look for. I then used a Two Brothers mid pipe and had a machine shop make a flange to adapt to the can. I think Jesse sells a kit if you have the can. I have less than $200 in my whole system. But sourced everything seperately. Also if you search Thumper Talk there is lots of good info there on this topic.
They went to a rear axle nut without a cotter pin on the latest models. Are the axles interchangeable, too?
