You bring a 400/4 home, and I get rid of a 400/4. The I traded the CB-1 to a friend for a /5 and $500 bucks today. I sure did get a little sad riding her up there.

Not trying to be a dick,But, would buying a runner be less costly ?

You have a big project ahead of you. Good luck :thumb

It's honestly not as bad as it looks. And it will be a fun project and I will appreciate the bike so much more when I'm done. But yeah it would probably be cheaper and a lot easier to just buy a runner. But a friend has this sitting in his yard and I hate to see a great piece of machinery go to nature so I rescued it. Not to mention I jut spent a bunch o money rebuilding the motor in my car so I don't have a lot of money lying aroun at the moment. This I can take my time with and I will know it thoroughly.

That makes a lot of sense, Knowing the bikes past and the prior owner are A big plus.

Take your time and do it for the passion !

Be thorough. You can have a road monster eventually. If those bags aren't rotted to nothing, I like "worn" stuff.

Bags... Rotted. I hoped to salvage them but it just wasn't in the cards.

Great thread. Just found it. Here's a quick rundown:

    '08 CBR1000RR (sold last year)

    And the replacement--'91 CBR600F2
As purchased (with other parts in boxes):

    Carbs cleaned and reassembled:

Partially together for the first test fire since late 90s:

And finally all dressed up with nowhere to go:

I've referred to it as the "Mattel Barbie" Honda in the "My Little Pony" color scheme... :rofl

I've stumbled onto an 04 RR with 6k miles for 4500. Would that be reasonable if there is nothing wrong with it when I go look at it?

Anything I should look out for in a 04 RR? Pictures on Craigslist aren't very good...

It should be near Mint for that price
Seems a little high to me
But that might be local market fluctuations

would 4k be a fair offer if its in good shape? Guy says there is no damage and it's completely stock.

Looking around, I'm not sure. Sport bikes really are all over the place. If it's in great condition, maybe?

    That's what I've found too.

Seen some on ebay not sell for 3500, but all had more miles. Never seen one above 4k, but still, never seen one with only 6000 miles either. I think I'll show up with $3800 cash and be willing to go to 4 if it's pristine.

Do the 600rr's have any significant issues to look out for? What should I look at specifically on an 04?

How hard/expensive are they to maintain? I've never had a FI bike before. What would I expect within the next 10000 miles? It currently has 6k.

How is the reliability on these bikes? I assume being a sport bike they're pretty high-strung. Do the engines last a while?

    Thanks for the help everyone.

As long it hasn't lived it's life on the track and been reasonably maintained, there shouldn't be any issues of note. Only semi-weak spot I've heard of is the CCT. Simple to replace it with an APE manual CCT and yer good ot go.

Somewhere on the interwebz, I've seen a guy who claims to have put on over 200,000 miles of sport/touring/track riding on his RR. If I wasn't so lazy and useless, I'd google it for ya, but...well... :*sip*
