First of all, a big Thank You to Baldy for this forum :clap

Most of my rides ( actually all of them to date ) are day trips with the occasional overnighter thrown in. So with this new venue I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring as I hope many other day trippers do the same.

I much prefer to have a destination in mind rather than wander aimlessly. However when an interesting road appears along my intended I will take it to see where it leads and if time runs short I'll always go back another day to reach the originally intended destination

The majority of my rides are spent exploring the Adirondacks, Vermont and surrounding areas so without further ado let me first introduce -

The Best laid plans of mice and men

often change, and As my friend The Red Ace so often reminds me "change is the only constant in life" so I go with it

Before I started out I took the first shot of the day

And when I started back up to the house my phone rang. It was my good friend and insurance agent Roger , we had been trying to coordinate our schedules since April for a ride and the conversation went like this

Roger: What are you doing today

Me: I'm on my way to Lake Placid

    Roger: When ?

    Me: Now

Roger: Screw Lake Placid, I cancelled all my appointments but one today. Lets take that ride, I;ll meet you at 1:00, I'm buying lunch

    Me: OK

Even though it was 6 hours away I knew some nice routes to ride that would loop me around to where we arranged to meet

So, gear up and I'm off to the races

First I stopped to window shop for a reliable used car, seeing nothing in my price range I moved on

And watched somebody who didn't have the day off

though I avoid the super slab whenever humanly possible I wanted to drop off some paperwork to a sub contractor, so i jumped on I 87 aka The Northway made a fast stop for the drop and exited here. If you've been to Americade you've seen this

Have you been around Johnsburg, NY because there's a neat BMW shop with old bikes in the back. During their open house they offered homemade pie which was fabulous. Very nice family & fun to visit with.

    Your first shot is beautiful.

The shop is called "Heid's Hodaka & BMW", I think the son's used to be top notch dirt riders. They continue to ride & he showwed me the bike he's currently putting together.

Warrensburg is a small town lying 6 miles north of Lake George Village. Like the vast majority of Adirondack towns, it's a Mecca for the outdoor enthusiast offering white water rafting and Kayaking, trout fishing, hiking, snowmobling , swimming and more.

It's also the site of the self proclaimed "Worlds Largest Garage Sale" every fall

I've never taken the time to explore the town itself, it's been just a waypoint and I ride through the main street and right back out again.

That being said it does offer at least two things I'll always grab a picture of

    Small Town Churches

    And Wall Murals

While I would venture to say the vast majority of visitors come for the scenery and outdoor recreation a smaller and possibly even more passionate number come for a different reason

    The Mecca of Meat

If you like smoked meats and cheeses this is the place to come. Their bacons especially are manna from heaven.

Rolling up the short gravel drive I am once again reminded that ...

We All Have The Right To Be Ignorant

But some of us really abuse the privelege. ( Note the position of the bike and the handicap signs ) As I've grown older and hopefully wiser I've learned not to let as many things irritate me, this is one of them that always will, no excuse for this at all. Ignorance is not a handicap in my world

With a silent and fevrent wish they choke on their meat I turn around to leave and as I do my initial feeling of anger turns to a twinge of sadness as I think about how at times the thoughtless actions of a few tends to rob all of us of a little bit of our humanity. Sometimes I wish I understood mankind.

I hang a right and head further North taking some roads I've never expierenced before seeking to rid myself of the bad Karma behind me, and there I find what I am seeking.....

Beautiful countryside! One of my favorite things is riding thru the country up home in Indiana, catching the smell of freshly mowed grass and seeing the old churches and farmhouses... :thumb
