I did some cool weather riding recently and I was really wishing for some hand guards. Does anything exist for this scenario? There is no room for traditional MX style handguards. ?
ya id really like to see something like this too as I have hippo hands for the ninjette but need some handguards to keep them from pressing on the brake lever.
Barkbusters brand make a handguard that mounts only on the bar end and fits a 6mm or 8mm threaded bar. Twisted throttle has them (no affiliation, wish I could get them somewhere else)
I installed these a while back on my 250. They required a little fiddling to get to fit properly, but they work. I bought them when they were $15 or so, so it was a much better deal. http://www.amazon.com/Raider-14304-Black-Handguard-System/dp/B0027M2UW0
I bought my KLX with these pro-taper guards on them. The mounting bracket was really small and mounted pretty far down the bar.. Might work for you.
There is no bar to mount to on a 250 Ninja. They only have bars that stick out of the risers, no full handle bar at all. I've seen the Storm mounts on Twisted Throttle and they only mount to the lever perches, so they may work for you.
The way I've mounted my Oxford Handlebar Muffs (and hippohands earlier) on my Ninja 250. Install and position them with enough lever clearance, etc.. Then find where the bar-end bolt is and then cut a very small hole in the side of the muffs. Remove bar-end bolt and then using a couple washers, one inside and one outside, re-insert it through the muffs. YMMV, But It works pretty good for me, keeping the muffs or hippohands off of my levers. Tony
You know this is what I was going to do but I think someone put locktite on them damn bar end screws, I cants seem to budge em.
This is as good as it is going to get for now, as I took them off last week because of the heat. They won't protect much from branches and stuff, but I imagine you wouldn't really be doing that on the ninja anyway. Edit: Pretty sure I bought them here. For the price, I'm not complaining. http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...&cvsfe=2&cvsfhu=343230313332&cID=GSHOP_420132
Try the stock Suzuki V-strom handguards. They hook to the end of the bar, and between the grip and brake/clutch lever if I recall. It may fit on your clip-on bars.
Hey guys! I made my own out of fiberglass. They are still work in progress, but here's what I got so far: Just gotta finish sanding them, and paint... Will be ready for Fall 2012 season, and will work wonderfully with my heated grips ))
Good Job! Looks like they ought to work just as good if not better than the hippo hands/handlebar gauntlets that I and other people have used. Tony
Here you go, guys! Finally finished my handguards. All painted and installed. Here are some pics with the front wheel cocked to the side. Let me know if you want some with the wheel straight, and some head-on photos... I promise, they look much better in real life Definitely not bad, considering this is the first time I've ever touched fiberglass and bondo in my life If anyone needs any help creating something like that, I'd be happy to share what I've learned, what works well, and what doesn't!!!
