    Hi,
just joined the adventure with a new 2014 BMW R1200GS "what".
Seems like it could be GSW for water cooled or GS LC for Liquid Cooled.
Appreciate it might seem like a stupid question to some, but as I'm new where to the forum I thought Id check to see what I should be call my new ride as i'm sure there will be other more egregious transgression in the future.
    cheers

"LC" is the big KTM engine.

I WAS under the impression that the official designation was R1200GSW, but upon looking at the website I see it's just R1200GS, as were the hexhead and camhead. Why does it need to be anything else? There's only One model of '14 R1200GS.

And, all that said, it's yours; wash it as fast as you want.

If you consider oil liquid, than GSW is more adequate, even though it's actually coolant (a water/chemicals mix). I never really understood the "liquid cooled" as the old one was that as well "oil/air" vs. the new one being "coolant/air".

But whatever. I have better things to obsess about ...

Well, coming from the medical field, a GSW is a gunshot wound so I go with LC or WC.

And an LC is Liquid Crystal or Limited Company, a WC is a frigging toilet. So, I'm not certain what that has do with how to name the thing ...

I like Water Head because it is primary water cooled. Oil Head is primary oil (liquid too) cooled. Air Head is air cooled.

I read a technical article (somewhere) saying that they were all primarily air cooled. That the greatest percentage of cooling came from air.

Why not just state "GS14" or "GSA14"? And, if you are talking about the new model, "GS15" and "GSA15"? Why not, huh? What do you think? How about that? :freaky

There are 4 different displacements of the GS, so just saying GS14 wouldn't necessarily convey that you meant a 2014 R1200GS.
