Good bye to a great bike. Cannot believe my son sustained a broken leg and wrist after this accident. Thank God.
That is like totaled! Glad your son is still with us... What is the story behind this like the previous posts said?
The story. Son, 22 years old left for work and met with a pick-up who was traveling in the opposit direction. As he was passing, the pick-up turned right, we drive on the left here. Same old story "I never saw him" He connected the pick-up in front of the front wheel which tells me he probably never even saw it comming so had no time to react. More pics when I go to see the bike. My son just started his first job working for the National electricity supplier, Escom, to repay a 3 year bursary. Fortunatly he has a great medical aid so has private medical care, essential here in Africa. So far he has a pin in his femur from the top to the bottom and a plate and screws in the broken wrist. Very lucky as it could have been a lot worse. Not a mark on the helmet, gloves or jacket. The bike is totalled. The one fork broke clean off, looks like it was cut it's straight across. Head set came right out and looks like the frame is not even bent. Front wheel is almost folded in half and the rotor is buckled:eek1 . Air box came clean off. Like they say " It's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden stop that does it"
Props to your son for coming out of that as well as he did. He's a trooper! I hope he heals well soon. And as an XCountry rider, that is one scary photo!
I had a nearly identical accident last fall, except it was a left turning cage. The jolt from the handlebars to my wrist was tremendous. It basically just detached all my hand from my forearm; bones, ligaments the whole 9 yards. Its good to hear your son is doing well and I hope he makes a full recovery.
