    G'day all.

Here's my first attempt at a brief report.
    Good to be here.

I'm now living in northern Thailand and have discovered that the area is not only a rider's dream but it is also blessed with about nine Hilltribe groups, each with their unique language, customs and ceremonies.

Recently I rode into the surrounding hills, to a village named Mae Sa Mai, to share some of the Hmong New Year celebrations with about 10,000 Hmong.

It was a wonderful and colourful day, hosted by friendly, amazing people.

Here's a few pics to show you some of the colour.

So if any of you are contemplating coming to northern Thailand, just do it!
    We'll look after you.

    Thank you Kyns.
I've had bad time with image hosts in the past and was hoping to be able to insert images direct from desktop, however I'll try the latter service.

That means I am subscribed and 'lurking' (eating popcorn :lurk) waiting for more entertaining posts with great pics! I worked 3 years in NongKhai with Lao and BanVinai with Hmong refugees and got up to Chiang Mai a few times. Your posts bring back memories of wonderful people and beautiful places in Thailand - Khap Khun Mak, Tjilpi.:clap

Yes, Thailand's borders do contain a wider variety of culture and languages than many realise..... Despite the efforts of the Ministry of Culture to promote the image of a homogeneous, central Thai speaking Buddhist society.

Much of what is now thought of as "Thai Culture" was invented by them back in the 1930's to further the nationalist aims of the powers that had recently come to be. Thankfully some of the diversity has remained in the kingdom's far flung corners.

    Thanks for the photos

    Ah, thank you 'eap'.
Yes, the various 'Hilltribe' groups and their willingness to share their culture really enriches an expats life here.

I'm off to an Akha show soon, so will do another report.

    Well said Khun Mick.
I'll stay away from the politics and the lies that TAT sell about Thailand.
I'm just so happy riding here and discovering, for me, new places and interesting people.

    Very frustrating!!!!!
    I certainly didn't remove them.
This might be why I abandoned 'Photobucket' a couple of years ago.

OK, so I've deleted them and reentered them from 'Photobucket'.
Let's see if they stay here! :1drink
