Way home from work, loading groceries in the side bags. Minivan mom and her son pull in next to me. I can see his hands splayed and his face plastered against the side window, big grin.
They get out while I'm suiting up. He's just wide eyed and grinning.
Nod to mom and say HI to junior.
He looks at me and says "How OLD are you?"
    57, How old are you?
    Five!
Ask him if he likes to ride bicycles?
    Yes.
We agree bicycle riding is fun and part.
    Smiled all the way home!

Always amazes me to see how little kids put the world together.

    Mine is a Harley Dyna.

It doesn't flood out. My guess is that for whatever reason the crank sensor doesn't get picked up, so after five seconds the pump and injectors stop. That's just enough gas to smell it, and get a "fwoomp" sound on startup.

That's how they usually run anyway, to safeguard the motor in case a timing sensor malfunctions, the ECU cuts injectors, fuel pump, and spark, but since the engine spins slowly on startup (until the f***er catches), there is an allowed delay.

    Solid logic. Makes sense.
What year dyna? That's one Harley I would ride, for sure.

It's a 2011 Wide Glide that I picked up as a leftover with 3 miles on it for a hell of a deal. Nice bike for sure, I am convinced of the Dyna's superiority over the Softail. However, I have learned that Forward controls do not work for me, and I can easily overrun the lean angle. Currently looking to trade it for a Goldwing (Had an 83 that I traded in for the "cool bike"), and a small backup cruiser (heck, a sportster if one is available).

Yeah, to me, the dyna would really shine with a lot of crap stripped off of it, and mid controls.

I hope you know that that is not normal. I put a lot of miles on EFI Harleys over 11 years and never had one single malfunction in that system.

My ST1300 has a bit in the manual about repeated starting attempts may flood the engine. Corrective Action: turn the bike over with throttle WFO. This will cut the fuel.

Most fuel injected machines cut fuel at start when the throttle is pinned open.

I know. Ive had it in the shop several times for issues that i am told are just Harley quirks. It is frustrating for sure, since the sensors that could cause that wouldnt even allow for a limp home if the problem stops being intermittent.

Hence why i want to move back to my beloved Hondas.

At the gas station today... My glasses fell off the tank when I was messing with with the pump. Since it's about six stories from a GS tank to the ground, old timer wearing a leather HD hat walks over and offers to pick them up and we got to talking and he said he was just surprised a BMW guy would talk bikes.
"Why don't you BMW guys talk to anybody else" Made me think off the endless threads about rude Harley guys who won't talk to them.
Like a bunch of kids at the junior high dance

This guy looked like he didn't have much and his v rod was a prized possession. He talked for a while about rides with the patriot guard.

He said HD purists hated the vrod and someone had even stabbed his radiator with a knife causing it to over heat and cook a cylinder. So I guess the BMW crowd isn't so bad by comparison.

I always wave to kids on bikes if they are looking at me. Isnt that the first rule of riding?

I wave to kids in the back seats of cars too, if they are looking at me.

When I used to ride sport bikes I always used to love pulling a wheelie for kids who gave me a wave, kind of squidish I know but goddamn whats cooler than that when you're a bored kid and some guy rips by on one wheel?
