Cut the Cable Cord...what can I stream

Cut the cable off last week.

We have an antenna, Ruku, Hulu Plus, and Netflix

Going to set up Amazon Prime soon.

I get NBC, CBS, and FOX over the air

I cannot get ABC.

What can I stream. I am really missing College Football.:eek1

Is ABC and ESPN available over the Internet somewhere?

What else should I know?

Hang out at your favorite bar for college football. Just learn how to nurse cheap beer, but still tip your bartender/waitress so they don't get tired of seeing you.

That would not go over too well with the wife.

If you are willing to wait, many TV shows eventually wind up on one of the streaming services.

I have Netflix and Amazon - not sure if I am going to keep the latter as it has little that Netflix doesn't.

I have little choice - I cannot get satellite or cable where I am at; satellite is blocked by trees and cable is not offered here. FIOS isn't either so I had DSL for about a year and then just recently went to WLL (WiFi) which is usually faster but is more flakey (especially when the weather is really bad).

AMC won't stream unless you already have one of their service providers (doesn't include the satellite services). AETV has free streaming IIRC for some of its shows (it is mostly reality TV, but it does have Longmire and The Glades). ABC does for some shows (I watched Agents of Shield).

justintv is available on your Roku along with a lot of other stuff and many unlisted channels (unlisted on the Roku co. site or the box itself), you can find info on them on the web...mostly low quality content and/or video but some of it is worthwhile. If you like British TV a LOT is available streaming if you are willing to pay for a VPN connection, we use expattelly.com and it works OK, about $12/mo. IIRC. It might be worth buying a Chromecast for $35 if you are going to use a laptop for streaming content, less hassle than hooking up an HDMI cable and it works really well for Youtube and Netflix, also a good way to get Hulu.com, cbs.com, etc from the computer to the TV.

I don't know about ESPN, but I can stream Castle(ABC) which airs on Mondays, the next day from ABC's website. That's true of a lot of the networks. You don't need to subscribe to Hulu plus.

College football was the biggest down side to cutting the cable for me, when ESPN starts streaming
live sports without requiring you have a cable service provider that will be the nail in cables coffin.
Or the universities start streaming their own games....

We've been cable free since 98 except for a few months when my wife's dad came to visit (he's a tv junkie). We use netflix and the major networks for streaming. We don't care that we are watching older shows.

It was hard to drop cable since I was a tv junkie but with family and my bike hobby I had no time to sit and watch life go by.

I have been living on over the air tv for almost a year now. House has aluminum siding, so signal quality inside sucked. Looked around about what to do, and found a few DIY antenna sites. I made a DB4 antenna last night without reflectors, and now I get about 12 channels clean and clear (most of them are HD too!)

Just click to load a show, then do something else for a while. I have a 12 meg internet but the bottleneck if the upload from the other end, and how many pervs are downloading porn at that point of the day.

vodly.to (make sure your browser has good adblock/pop up blocker) firefox is great for this. any movie you can think of that's ever been made is in there. some stream links are better than others. putlocker, sharepro, gorillavid, sockshare.

for documentaries i use topdocumentaryfilms.com (no pop ups or anything to worry about just stream away).

veehd.com is also great and has a ton of movies for stream or download. sign up for a free account and you don't deal with the few pop ups they have.

there are others out there but i use these the most

So now my TV has dropped from about $90 to $25...I have this deal for 10months.....at the end of that 10months we will do it all over again....it will give me some time to get everything off the DVR

Live in-market sports is the only hook that Cable/Satellite really has.

We cut the cord in April, and went to streaming with the Roku/PS3 this summer. We get broadband through the cable company, and I found out that just plugging the TV into the cable jack, we still got the locals, TBS and WGN in HD. They aren't filtered. It was fine...

Until hockey season.

I just got DirectTV for that reason. I'm a huge hockey fan, and I'm not willing to deal with trying to run NHL Game Center through a VPN to get in-market games.

About the only thing I missed was live sports but I get just enough that I'm over it.
Cut the cord the end of March and I don't miss it one bit. The wife who was the driving force behind getting cable in the first place is also over it and has no problem with it anymore.

Sounds like you've got the hardware and a lot of good ideas already so I'll just say it's totally worth it and an extra 1320 a year in your pocket doesn't hurt (my bill was 110 a month).

I don't have cable or satellite. I get everything off the internet...some grey-ish market which I won't get into, but others, totally legit. My wife and I just watch a few shows.

If you go to the network's site, you can often watch full episodes of your shows. ctv.ca (canadian) click on shows, and although you get bombarded with commercials, you still get to watch the content for free. same with discovery, HGTV, and speed.

Everything is going great. I tweaked the antenna and now I get ABC crystal clear!

I have gotten hooked on Breaking Bad on Netflix.
