I hate Thieves. Will be on the lookout. Be sure to monitor CL, Ebay. I also posted to the LOEBMWR site.

    That sucks. :cry

12GSAs have an immobilizer chip in the key so it'll get parted out, and the market for GSA parts is pretty small. Either the thieves were highly professional, or really stupid. Let's hope for the latter and maybe some of those parts will show up on CL/ebay.

Or, they had a key => inside job.

Any security cameras in the UNMH parking garage?

Only seems to happen in the Burq or here in the Springs. Frickin Thieves.
I saw a story recently from one of the cycle mags on some ex military in Cali getting even with some scum sucking thieves.
Waiting in a van for a few nights then extracting revenge.
It brought a smile to my face.

    UNMH ........ Univ. NM Hosp?

This should be easy to solve with that picture. Plus there is a date and time signature on this to correlate with other traffic cameras in the area. Might get a good enough picture by cleaning this one up, or accessing another, that it would be worth posting elsewhere in that general area. "Has anyone seen my missing brother" ........... :nod :augie :lol3

He looks too clean cut to just be a regular everyday bike thief ........... white dress shirt, store bought haircut, etc. And he's certainly isn't fat enough or old enough to be a "real GSA rider". Get that mug on a milk carton! Or better yet, posted down at the local Starbucks! :D

Looks like the kid also has some sort of lanyard around his pencil neck. Maybe some sort of official ID?

C'mon inmates, now is our time to use all of our sleuth skills! And once we figure out who the turd is and where he lives .............. might be time to have a little fun with the guy before the authorities get involved.

    Good Luck!

he left his keys in it?

That's a pretty decent picture - print a bunch out and post them in all the lobbies of that building. Someone knows who he is.

Seems that the immobilizer chip has a hack for it.

It's bad enough that the bike was stolen, But if someone took the time to develop a hack then that puts this in to a whole new ball game.

Color me skeptical on the hack. Smart enough to achieve the hack and then fail to wear sunglasses or something to hide your image on camera. Doesn't add up to me.

    :dunno

It just smells of inside job to me. If you can hack an immobilizer why go after a $8K bike, when there are probably a dozen other high-value targets (think BMW cars) in that garage?

All the immobilizer hacks I've heard of involve physically accessing the OBD port to steal the vehicle. On the GS the diagnostic plug is proprietary, and it's under the seat, which also requires the key to access.

So, my internet armchair intuition says the perp had access to a key. Maybe not the owner's original key, but a key nonetheless :jjen

There was a thread on Tacoma World where a dude was targeted in a Vegas parking garage (Tacos also have an immobilizer key btw). The perps tailed him to his hotel room, spoofed the electronic door lock, and stole his keys while he was sleeping to boost the truck. I wouldn't be surprised if a similar scenario befell the GS and its owner. It being a Vegas hotel, there were cameras everywhere and eventually the perps were caught. But the truck was parted before they were caught :cry
