The cases aren't exactly really strong, that is to withstand any real impact, so it appears this may help with something but not much, other than minimal impact???

Help me on this, what am I missing?

EDITED RESPONSE: Ok, I just edited my response. I looked at the picture more closely cuz didn't see the 'protection' originally, and yup, seems worthwhile to me. Where do you get these???

seems to me like you'd want more than double sided tape holding them on.... maybe aircraft style solid rivets?

That double tape pretty strong and my guess is that most times the impact is perpendicular to the guards (or close to perpendicular) so that rivets/tape machts nicht?

I can see where it would work great by sealing the bottom riveted area from splitting. I would assume that instance is rare though as Ive never heard anyone complain about that. The real weakness in this case is the plastic rim.

But still, a fall or tip over on it and it would look just like the before picture.

Heres an idea...anodize in different colors and be sure to sell them with stickers. How much are they selling for?

I had a 3M sales rep showing me architectural adhesive products once. Then, he said, "you might be interested in this".
He proceeding to show me a two-sided tape that was developed to bond sheet metal together. The application, he said, came from "taping together" the metal in airplane wings. They were also starting ti use it in architectural metal panel assemblies. Long story short, I'm sure this stuff, or other similar tape, would be more than sufficient to hold on the corner protectors.
If you ever had the big get-off then you probably have bigger fish to fry than the corners of your panniers. 2ยข.
