that's great. My exhaust nut wrench is indestructible but it's very big. I'm going to have to lug that thing around in my toolkit now. Lame. I looked at a lot of wrenches, wish you had made these a month ago.

It is a beaut and I'll need one this winter when I work over my exh.

But here's a noob question: All I hear about is having to struggle to get the nuts off. Is there any reason to carry an exh wrench in toolkit? What roadside failure would require removing pipes - that would not require a "real" shop?

That is one of the most beautiful objects I have seen, AND it just happens to be an exhaust nut tool. I'd vote for it being in the MOMA collection.
In fact, it is so stunning I may just have to go and buy another airhead as an excuse to get one as I just parted with my last airhead a few months ago.

I am looking for a sample nut as we speak, and will probably offer one in the future, but do the earlier models have a lug wrench? Excuse my ignorance, as I have never worked on a early (non mono) Beemer.

No, the earlier models do NOT have a lug wrench.

There is that bar used with the spark plug wrench.

That could probably do something, not sure on the diameter of the lug wrench bar,.

Make one of those that'll work with the early style "Winged" nuts and I'll buy one.

Otherwise, I have no use for the tool.

PS: I've never heard of a need for an exhaust nut wrench out on the road. That would probably be the last tool I'd think to pack! Loll!!

2. I have an old style Exhaust nut from a /5 I could send you (I'd want it back eventually!) if you still need one. Machining the stub end to fit into the plug wrench that's part of the early tool kits would likely provide plenty of leverage.

Unless you have an early model R100RS with oil cooler and that bulky thermostat. For an oil and oil filter change on a long trip , I need to remove at least the exhaust pipe on the right side to be able to get the oil filter out. It is normally just as quick to take off the mufflers and loosen the left pipe as well to get the cross over separated.

So, yes I do carry one. It rests up inside the fairing under the headlight, tied to the fairing support rack.

I would give you ten bucks just for the data!
