You live in the underpopulated western part of the state :nod It's nice out there west of the Merrimack. I ride my 100 hp Valkyrie when I go there. In the Seacoast/Boston suburbs part of the state I rarely exceed 35 mph: there's always some dipshit in the way, driving a manure spreader, Volvo, Toyota Prius, or Subaru Forrester. You can ride 30 miles without a single passing zone! And the PCX is too slow for double yellow passing...

The PCX is my first small bike since the early 1970s. (It's amazing how far technology has progressed since my 1963 C102.) I've become reacquainted with gravity and momentum. I'm getting used to being able to dart about. To do a u-turn without finding a side street first. I'd forgotten how much more fun a tiny bike is than riding a chrome-plated aircraft carrier we call a cruiser.

The PCX is intended for Great Britain's A1 restricted license and hence is 125cc and limited to a top speed 100 km/hr. A 150cc version would likely not be sold in the U.K. and could be geared for a higher top speed.

that seems to merely be an explanation of the british motorcycle licensing system. sorry not seeing any evidence that the reason the WORLD MODEL PCX 125 is restricted to 100kph world wide has anything to do with how that will make it fit into the british licensing system. am i missing it ?

brits on PCX forums have made similar claims but so far have not been able to produce any evidence that this is more than speculation.

why would honda restrict the PCX 125s all over the world just to make it fit the british market instead of merely restricting the UK bound bikes? they didnt put the US market stuff on all of the bikes for the rest of the world now did they.

i think that it is restricted to 100kph as that is the top cruising speed that the engine is designed to be operated at for prolonged periods reliably. since it is a small engine they know that some will run it at the limiter for extended periods. i will be clear that this is just my own speculation as to why it is restricted.

from what i have seen nobody really knows for certain except the honda engineers why honda decided to restrict the PCX 125 to 100kph! i am not saying that you are certainly wrong, but i'm not convinced yet. if anybody does know for sure, please enlighten us!

Your thinking is sound. The 125 PCX is also geared so that 100 km/hr is the engine redline. And it is possible to cruise all day bouncing off the rev limiter, although the gas mileage drops to a horrid 75 mpg when "abused" that way, :lol3

To me the PCX is just plain UGLY, I would never consider owning one for that reason. The Met looks a lot better, but is just too small and slow. A 125 Met, similar to the Yamaha Vino 125 would be great. To me a Vintage Vespa is what a scooter should look like. Some of their newer ones still look pretty good. When it comes to scooters, I am very much a traditionalist. About the SH150i, that was a major ripoff. It was nothing but a rebadged Kymco People 200 (which actually displaces only 150cc) at twice the price. But where it really showed up, is it was a plastic Asian scooter selling at the same price as an all metal VESPA LX150. Honda simply does not have the name or heritage to play in the same league as Vespa.

As far as freeway use, it depends on the freeway. I have ridden my Yamaha Vino 125 from Phoenix, AZ to San Diego and back on I-8, which is almost deserted. Wasn't legal, but it purred right along at 50-55 mph. I have also ridden my Yamaha XT225 on the same trip at a top speed of 60 mph. Yes, it will go a little faster, but unlike the Vino with it's CVT transmission, I don't like riding it full throttle.

the US version has the external turn signals, a parking brake, and no idle stop.

the idle stop feature saves gas, cuts emissions, works flawlessly and starts instantaneously. so flawlessly that i wouldnt even bother to turn it off in a drag race. if you havent tried it you'd be amazed!

so why wouldnt you want it?!?

The S65 was fun to ride to work on but a guy from Tennessee wanted it worse than I did.
The PCX goes faster and gets 93 MPG. It is growing on me-kinda fond of the lil bugger. :D

I had not seen a PCX up close before.

Beautiful machine. And the specs they put out make it usable for 90 percent of us.

I would have checked it out further; but somehow 125cc's and 250 lbs don't add up to 62mph. I'd LIKE to believe; but it wouldn't be the first time I was sorely disappointed in the gap between promise and reality.

At 295cc's my bigger scoot has more than twice the displacement, and a Yamaha-Linhai FI engine. It's spunky, but it seems to top out in the higher 70s. Haven't pushed it as I have a wheel out of balance...starts bouncing at high speeds.

The PCX is more attractive and more economical and only a couple hundred more than I paid for mine; but like so many other good products, gone before its target customers noticed.

I agree with one post that Honda needs to build a 250cc scooter and 250cc would be the perfect size.

Since many posts say the Honda PCX 125cc have the performance to make highway speeds, can we now agree that a Yamaha Tmax 500cc can also go and exceed highway speeds?

also can we agree that the Honda PCX has copied a lot of features of the Yamaha Tmax?

can someone explain to me why the Yamaha Tmax is a much better selling scooter in Italy than the Suzuki Burgman?

Does anybody agree with me why the Yamaha Tmax gets such a bad rap is because so few were made and sold here in the U.S.?

Notice the PCX center section forward of the seat, its not flat where you have to lift your legs to get over, almost simular to a motorcycle, it doesn't have a flat footed center section,,, right? For years the Honda and Suzuki owners of scooters have always cut down the Yamaha Tmax cause it has a raised center section the same as the PCX. NOW when Honda makes one like that all of the sudden thats great, wonderfull! Funny how the same people that cut down and make fun of the Yamaha Tmax praise the Honda PCX thats almost an exact copy of the Yamaha Tmax!
