I wonder how many of the bikes in this thread were never for sale because the owner was "going to restore it someday..."

Don't even think about that. If you go to www.carsinbarns.com and check the weekly postings, many of them make reference to guys finding treasure cars that will never be given up for exactly that reason, although the cars in question almost inevitably sink deeper into the ground.
