I emailed Mark at the Weldborough - Peter Cornelius is playing on the 27 Sept. I went the soft option and booked a double room - bringing Tracy and we're going to take a dirt road route home on Sunday.
St Mary's would be good place, can make a good ride to get there from all parts of Tassie. What about somewhere in the deep south (as well). How would that campground at Lonnavale handle a small gathering. I hav'nt been there but seen it on the net, been wanting to get there for ages. Seems like it would be great - plenty of awesome riding around there.
Thats called Rivers Edge Wilderness Camping Ground. Very nice spot and a great loacation for a weekends riding. http://www.riversedgecamping.com.au/
The camp ground. Fire pots and wood provided at a small cost. Camp kitchen with fantastic wood heater and bar-b-q Brand new shower / toilet block. Coin operated "HOT" water showers. Cheers
Yeah, looks the goods Growelly. Thanks. I think we should just do it . But before anyone gets too carried away in the excitement, If Tassie had it's own regular , reliable ADVRider rally, when should it be and what would you call it? I like the idea that it would be a weekend ( or more) that is not recognized as a public holiday.
April is the best month in the year. Clear of bush fire season. Fire bans are lifter. Usually the calmest month, no wind. Starting to cool down but just fabulous clear nights. Most of the tourists have gone home. Autumn in Tasmania is soooo nice.
Yeah, as a bushwalker too, I can readily agree about April- just beautiful. Motorbiking at it's most awesommest.
Ok lets try something diffent on here for a change. - Open invitation to anyone wanting to go for a ride through the Southern Forest next Saturday the 9th August. Might still be plenty of snow about which makes for a great photo, so bring your camera. Judbury through to Arve Road then Esperance Valley Highway (not a real highway) to Dover. Find some lunch or afternoon tea and cruise home. Meet and leave from Repco Kingston at 9.30am. 256klm ending at Huonville. Cheers Growelly.
A tassy gathering sounds like a top idea. Im pretty new to this so it would be a good opportunity to meet up with like minded.
Here are a few photos from this weekends ride around the Southern Forest. The two big Kato's comfortably travelled 287klm ending at Rivers Edge camping ground "Lonavale". Lunch at the Southport pub was terrific as usual and we were kindly welcomed by the caretaker at Lonavale camp ground. They are motorcycle friendly and very accommodating. Apart from 2 vans, we had the park to ourselves. As rain arrived we settled down to pizza (that's another story), a cold beer and watched the footy on the big screen in the camp kitchen warming ourselves by the large 44gallon fire stove. Headed home Sunday morning missing the rain storms. Top weekend.
Great photo, kato's with attitude Nice kato uniform Des Would have loved to come down for this one, but to much on up here See ya next weekend
I tried to Join the Facebook Group and did not get admitted and now I cannot even see the group on facebook. Is this a Facebook issue or something else
Hi Flickit, just wondering if you have anything on Rabalga track? Planning a lap of Tas with a small group of riders, one of which will beat me with a big stick if I take him down anything gnarly (like where you sunk the Tenere, Coles rd?) Thanks in advance.... H.
Rabalga track was all fairly easy, it has some slightly rough spots but nothing bad, if there's been lots of rain it's likely to be a bit mushy/slippery in places but nothing that's likely to get anyone into trouble... Real nice riding though there, rough enough to be entertaining on a big bike but nothing particular hard... Ahhh yep, Coal Rd, that's one to be avoided unless you want a good adventure Most the mapped through-roads out that way are fairly good... Avoid Relapse Link Rd and Newhaven Track unless you want a challenge... When you get your route planned I'd be interested to see it, I "may" be able to suggest some modifications... :)
Many thanks for that, much appreciated.Have trawled through nearly 400 pages of the Tasmanian Riders Hub (have to remember to bookmark pages) and of course ride reports like those from Bull600 and your own of course and many others. So any advice is more than welcome. Can't beat local knowledge. The plan is for a two week trip. Here is what I've been playing with so far, though I will have to amend it to accommodate the people who will be only coming for the first week. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5918151. But it is what I would like to do (will leave something for next time). Would love to do Pieman Heads to Trial Harbour but I need something more "awesome" than the Tenere for that one. Leaving from Wynyard and going down along Preolena Rd, Meuanna, Pruana, And Blazely roads.......this then goes on to Newhaven track. The bit not to do, is that the part of Newhaven that heads back north or the bit that continues on to Rabalga?
I'll have a better look over it later, (about to head out the door)... The only bit I can spot at the moment that isn't do-able is the Pipeline track that crosses Arthur River, off the end of your Rabalga track part... You need to continue on along the norther side of Arthur River on Wedge Plains Rd and cross the river at Tayatea Bridge... The Pipeline track is gated and there's no getting around those gates... :)
this thread should not be confused with the FaceBook page the two are different......this is ADVrider the other is a group of Tasmanians who like Adventure riding you might have been blocked from the page for some reason
