Hi Folks, Just wondering if anyone has heard of KTM planning to come out with a 1290R SA Version. Would be great with an orange frame, sporty grahics & some added performance goodies. Thanks
Why not just get the 1190R? I guess I don't get it. The 1190 is heavy enough and has way more than enough power. What would be the use case for a 1290R?
To me it is a two-up sport touring bike that can go on some dirt roads. I put a deposit on the second one my dealer is getting today. I will be keeping my 990 for Adventure Riding.
Coeur d'Allene Powersports (they are trying to get 4 but only really think they will get two). They are not in Pullman but we have no real motorcycle dealers within 45 miles.
doubt that there would be an R version of the 1290. The 1190R is at the margins of power and weight needed in the bush as it is..( but yes, people are attracted to power) I would think the more logical move would be to make a 1290 standard where the tank is smaller and the options of the SA are available as extras. That bike could actually better the 1190 performance if the weight was kept down. As presently offered the extra HP/ Torq of the 1290 SA is negated by its added weight. It will be interesting to watch a side by side run with the 1290 SA vs 1190S. It could very well be that real world performance is a wash between the two on the road, but off road the S would seem to have the advantage. Think GS verses 1190 S. The 1290 slammed into an R frame with that bigger front wheel would of course cream the S (as a 1190 or 1290) and the SA off road..but would it be better than an 1190 R? I think not in the rough and because of that the 1190 R will prolly be stickin around for a while. The 1190 S however may be a Dodo bird in 2016..
Thanks Painterdude Agreed I love my 2014 1190R. However if KTM can bring it out in an orange frame would be sharp. I may just go in for one and off course with all the added goodies.
My 2015 1190r is come from cda honda too. They tried telling me the same stuff when I bought my Duke from them.Come July they will have one or two sitting there not able to sell. They have a 2014 1190 still there.
I wondered. I know the guy getting number one with them. . I used to live in Spokane. Did they give you a timeline?
We will see. It doesn't make any difference to me since I will have already ridden a lot of miles on mine by then I hope.
