Tearing up Washington on my KTM 990 R

Today is a good day. I sold my BMW R1200GS and picked up a brand new 2011 KTM 990 R yesterday. Going to add some updates right away, including a Black Dog skid plate and stand relocation plate.

No jokes about a KTM being towed by a BMW!

I would suggest Akra cans and KTM folding mirrors. I would also recommend going to NAPA and get some Stainless Steel valve stem caps.

Go with the Wings cans! Cj designs has great folding mirrors too and they actually helped with the buffeting issue.

Congrats on an excellent choice! I kinda came from the other way: KLR 650 to KTM. Nice to see someone that has experienced the big GS having some Orange koolaid! Absolutely LOVE my '10 R!

Went from a GSA indirectly to a 990.....apples and oranges....
totally different ride...you will love this bike.

I did the same thing. I got the pleasure of riding anouther inmates gs a few weeks ago and I am definatly happy with my decision. I've done about 18k on the 990 so far, what a amazing bike!

I am thinking about making the move to a 990 R, and I am curious about the differences in ride. I found a dealer willing to sell a 2011 new for $11.7k but, I have read if you don't have a tall inseam you won't be happy. So, all you inmates that have made the move, please provide your input.

I am 6' tall, with a 33" inseam, and while I am not flat footed, coming from a motocross background this suits me fine.

I posted this under ride reports, but will post here as well on my thread, breaking her in on dirt seemed logical...

I'm 5' 9" with a 30" inseam. Initially the bike will seem tall but you adapt and it soon becomes second nature to you. No worries. Go for it!

5' 10" w/ 32' inseam on a 2005 950 Adv, which is just a tad shorter than the current 990R. You get used to the height quickly.

Where at in Washington are you? We got a decent little riding group of orange koolaid drinkers down her in Olympia. Nice bike and congrats by the way I run the titanium fmf cans and love them fwiw.

I am up in Bellevue, just East of Seattle. Surely in the range when a good ride presents itself!

Yep I am 6'1" and I prefer it to the standard height Adventure that I had before, but also I like the bench seat (you can shift positions easily when riding on difficult terrain)

Congratulations on the new steed. We need more proof that your thashin' on Washington though. Ya know, "gouges in the skid plate, radiator / windsheild bug collection, worn rubber, speeding tickets, etc." Your off to a good start. Ridin' dirty! Keep up the good work. And ride it like you stole it, cause you own it! Welcome to the club.
