....I sent off my set of cams to be reground by Megacams, which I have just received and they did a fantastic job! BUT...the frig'in customs agency of this frig'inn country is allowed to tax me on the amount I spent to repair, rebuild etc etc to an american or other country, repair facility!!! WHAT the F_CK!!! How can they justify this crap! I would have been burned the same as if I declared that I actually bought them from the states!!! I am so frig'in mad at the moment it's taking way too much time re-spelling half of these words!!! Son of a Bitch! Have a nice day sir after I was told all this crap when I called to see how to get my refund for incorrectly charged funds. He even chuckled!!!! Even the post office said they shouldn't have charged me this amount as it was clearly my goods leaving and returning to me. BUT, NO..they have figured out how to F_CK us over even for this! It cost me another $50 ...DAMNed frig'in government! They all need to be lined up and frig'in shot in the stomach!!!! DAMN!!!! Now I have to go and calm down before trying to look at my engine.....augh!!!!! g head:
Can they point you to the legislation that shows that they can charge duty on repairs? If not then you'll have a case. Sent from my iPhone using the app 'Tapatalk'.
I aways vote NDP these days. And we know who to blame now too Remeber the grovement workers have to say use to be be The 'Canadain Goverment. Now what was it ,,,,,,, grovment ,
I have no first hand experience in this regard, but something doesn't seem right here. A buddy of mine buys and sells dozens of guitars a year - it's not his business, he's just addicted. He recently bought one from the U.S., and rather than import it and pay tax he had it shipped to a guitar shop that a friend of his owns as a repair. So in his case bringing something in from from the U.S. as a repair means he doesn't have to pay tax. Doesn't seem right that they should charge you tax for doing the same thing... I think you need to open a can of whoop-ass and tell us how it went! Good luck man, that sucks.
Got this email today about a ural trailer I ordered. Hi David, your trailer arrived at Halifax airport yesterday. Since then we have been constantly trying to get the shipment cleared with Canada Customs. Two requirements by Transport Canada could not be met, for example a 17 digit serial number. The trailer has 7 digits. We are being forced to ship the trailer back. We are sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused you. A cheque will be mailed for reimbursement.
I tried to reason with them....he said it was GST or HST on the cost of the repairs!!! Just as if it was done up here!! WTF??? How the hell can they charge me for something that wasn't even done in this country? I'm still shaking from the Bullshit!!! Fuck if I ever meet the dipshit who tagged me he will need some repairs of his own!!! And they can charge his ass HST for it too!
Unless I'm mistaken, gst is 5%, so if this cost you $50, you paid $1000 to have your cams reground? Ouch. I understand your frustration, I just paid GST on a used gas tank that was shipped up from AZ. Wasn't worth my time trying to fight for it though.
They harmonized the two taxes here in Ontario so they could stick it to you without lube....so it's double the $$ they hose us for......frigg'in criminals!!!! If I could convince the misses to move out of this tax state I would be gone tomorrow!
A few years back BC Ferries got an new ship in tax free claim it was cheaper to build it in Germany and bring it over here,
No kidding! How did we get from unexplained fee for services in another country to BC Ferries [a crown corp of the government of BC, essentially] not having to pay taxes on purchases???:eek1:eek1 By saying they should, surely you must mean yourself, because you are the taxpayer,,,,,remember??? Holy Ukfe Steve
I don't understand the issue...it's a Goods and Service Tax...You had a service performed in the US and CBSA is charging you the appropriate tax when the item crosses the border.... What am I missing?
Not to hijack this thing, but,,,just got back from New Zealand. Their ferry system between the two islands is,,,,,,well, nothing like our system. Bike & rider is $125 one way, bikes must reserve, must show up 1 hour before, must supply their own tiedowns, all for a 3 hour ride. Food is terrible and very expensive, minimal seating, dark, old, daur, no outside access, no vehicle access. We got NOTHING to bitch about, believe me!! Steve
ok a serious question not about ferries how were the cams shipped back to you ? and if you had this work done in your home town how much tax would you have paid ?
sO WHOM are you dealing with that claims there is a a duty/GST due? if megacycle shipped your cams back via UPS, there's your problem. according to UPS there's GST due on everything and oh yeah we get a slice for clearing it for you... i got the same hose treatment when i shipped my escort detector down to Ohio for service.. Escort uses UPS for shipping
It was sent by USPS or the regular postal service not UPS...I have been burnt by them before. It is the customs idiots who dinged me for this.... As for the right for this frigg'in Province country to tax you on money spent in another country to repair something of your own is just not right. ..IMHO....sure if it were done here fine...but it should be up to that state's law to tax me if anyone! Not a greedy slimey country which had nothing to do with the procedure at all. If there had been a company which did this service up here with the repretation that the company I used in the states, then I would have used them to spare the time of shipping etc. I can see the goods tax, because you are just trying to save $$ by cross border shopping and not using a Canadian company but in this case....not so. It just burns my ass that's all!
