Very interesting - thanks for posting this. Now we need to get together and petition Garmin to make the Montana do the same.

What's the best way to do that?

No idea what exactly is the "best" way, but the normal route is that we all send them a request for the feature but this one's so important that maybe we should make an actual online petition and send them that.

Also, the Garmin forums are a way to talk the developers so maybe we should create a thread there as well.

I created this thread on the subject. Not holding my breath for an answer, but you just never know.

Yeah, I subscribed to that one immediately, when you posted it in the other thread. :lol3 edited to add: Oh! I see this one is different! Sorry for any confusion.

When I get a chance, I may start one about this.

it seems to me that garmin dont really consider the off road motorcycle market at all.As far as the montana is concerened i guess they think that the 50 point is fine for hikers etc

I also wish that on motorcycle mode they had an odometer that you could + or - if you were using roll charts.

Good luck with that. I've sent them more then one e-mail regarding the 50 point limit and they NEVER respond at all.

We live in hope. :lol3 I'd be very interested to find out why there's that limit. If there really is a reason for it, why not tell us?

Perhaps the question I asked was placed in the wrong forum so I created a new question in the Basecamp forum.

Honestly, I think the reason is they want you to buy multiple GPS's. Of course, they don't want to tell us that.

I think so too, but that's not going to stop me from trying to change their mind on it.

And we buy them, hoping for the best.
Can't tell what the limits are until the unit has been used a lot. Reading the owner's manual and the spec sheet pre-purchase is no help.

I'm just hoping that if we keep bombarding them with ideas and feature requests for current models, that they will gradually make some improvements. The 350LM is their newest moto GPS, so I am hoping for some ongoing development. If it would allow more points in a route, show tracks, and allow me to kill some or all of the data fields displayed on the map, it would be damn near perfect. I know their track record is not great, but I will still try.

Here is the link to ask for something: http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/#container-form

Are rebates common sales strategy at Garmin?

GPS prices seem to be expensive when compared to say a smart phone, considering a smart phone's technology and capability, including navigation.

What is in the cost of a GPS? Or perhaps the questions should be what is in the price of a GPS?

I've seen them before. Even took advantage of one when I bought my StreetPilot 2720. :dunno
