Have you taken the end cap of the fuel pump and cleaned the points up ? If not you may find you will get another several months out of it .

It's the fuel injected 990, the pump is in the tank.

Seriously, if you need help getting a pump and getting it shipped to you, PM me.

I can check local dealer first thing in the morning and get it on it's way first thing Monday.

Let me know what we can do to help.

Call Moto Altavista (Mexico D.F.), they might have what you need.
Ask to speak with Erick Gallardo or just the service guys, they speak English I think.
They might even working tomorrow (Saturday) half day...

This is one thing that concerns me about the FI 990. Getting stranded in BFE by a fricken fuel pump failure. Which has already happened to me. Mine had 3k miles on it when it went kaput. POS fuel pump IMO.

    Chris,
The fuel pump fuse is the one furthest to the right in the glove box(In case your labels are not on the fuse box). Did a dealer tell you the pump is dead? Give some symptoms, maybe something else?

Yes it is the fuel pump. The shop had it on the bench and put power directly to it. I called friends in South Africa and was told the pump is the same that is in a Arctic Cat. 8 hour time difference have not gotten back to me as to what Arctic Cat or part number.

You 'n' me both. Which is why I will not be ridin' a 990. Gimme my carbs for ADV use.
I don't like ABS either, but that's easy to defeat.

Chris, this is Ted at AF1. I'll call the KTM dealer in Austin to see what they can do, if it's available we can ship it down to you.

KEIHIN fuel pump. At least that's stamped across the bottom.

    Chris,
I don't know how your aux fuel tanks are hooked up, but these fuel pumps need some fuel in the left tank to keep them cool. Running them on low fuel for long periods will burn them out.

Thanks guys, Ted that would be great. I do have one coming Wed. but would like a spare. Bob you may be right I have run it out once or twice then switch over to extra fuel tank. It's still a shit setup for a bike that for adventure riding. I could of died in the mountains near Guatemala. Just think if your car broke this much. There would be a recall.

Just read a ride report of another guy traveling to South America and he said he had some trouble getting into Honduras because he did not have the original title to his motorcycle with him. They ended up giving him a 12hr pass to the country. I'm assuming you're still on your way to Costa Rica. It would be nice if you kept a running ride report (pis or not) going so I could follow along. What are you doing on your five days of down time?

I have my title with me but my bike is not registered. I have a daily log but it is not public. I have a guy in Connecticut that will give it to my kids if something happens. I pulled my bike out of the dealer today. They were jerking me around and told me today that the fuel pump would be $ 670.00 U.S. dollars. Just pump no labor. Full retail is $ 470.00 which I would pay. It should be warranty. What am I doing? I'M GOING CRAZY. I will be out of here by end of week on something!
