I am trying to help a friend out that has the ADV bug but believes he needs a backrest for himself to keep him riding extended periods. He is looking at GS 1200 , Explorer 1200, and the likes there off. I know I have seen a couple inmates on here that have done the same. Any pics , advice, direction, etc.... would be great.
    Thanks

A packed soft or semi rigid bag on the pillon.
Pressure and location are adjustable according to how full
you pack it and where you locate it on the seat.
Hth and good luck to your friend.

Most Corbin seats have a backrest option as do some Russell day long seats. Mayer seats?

In the end I am going with bob on this for a couple reason.

    1. I have always thought that if you get rear ended in a bad accident that backrest is going to be a bad deal. The last thing I want is my spine fighting for space with a metal bar.

    2. If it is extended riding the well packed and strapped bag is way more comfortable and safer. A camping mattress or spare coat in a bag is just awesome and handy as well.

The other option is a nice lady friend. They make great backrest!

I tried a backrest on my GS with a Corbin seat and mailed it home 1/2 way through a big trip, to limiting for my liking.

All a backrest is good for is making your back sweat. I can sweat in summer already so don't see the need myself.
