So, I just remembered Kurt has a HVLP paint sprayer for an air compressor. We could do some sweet stuff with that. I think he also has a standard spray gun also. Any interest? If so I will need some advance notice so I can get it from him.
Thanks for the offer amigo, but I refuse to spend another penny on this budget project thing until I can get the carbs in and hear it run. :) Probably should have said this a couple hundred bucks ago.
That bare metal tank looks nice. I wonder if you even had to clear it though. I bet wiping it a little with some WD-40 every once in a while would take care of it. If you got some surface rust, just rub it a little with some steel wool. At any rate, those dings and leftover paint looks pretty good on that bare tank. I like it.
Didn't want to have to do that and have the tank be greasy. If I choose to do it long term this way, I'll get the 2 stage clear coat.

No major progress...still waiting for carbs. I rolled it out onto the nice green grass to take a few pics, just bored. I used the plasti-dip to black out the rear shock eye covers and the headlight trip ring. Mostly been just staring at it out in the garage...This is awful. I have two other perfectly awesome bikes in the garage, but I just can't wait to blast around town on this stupid thing.
+ 37$ for the tank So at 900$ now. It looks like I'll be able to get tires for about $140 plus 30$ for tubes and my buddy can mount them for me. I'll assume another 20 bucks for an oil change. So I should be sitting at about 1100$ + carb clean fee. I'm ok with that.

I must say that I have the much easier task at hand. In my opinion, the 535's lines are FAR superior to any of the other Virago models, especially the 80's 700+. that cafe is looking fantastic, however.
Trying to decided if one of those tall sissy bars would look good on this bike: This one is sold on ebay from Hong Kong: I'm not sure if this bike is old school chopper enough to pull it off. It would have to come after the carb and the tires anyway...
In my opinion, a bike really should be a hardtail to rock a sissybar. Sissybars that don't attach at the rear axle bolts just don't look good. Again, that's just my opinion and don't let it sway you too much. I'd like to see your bike without the front fender. It's looking good.
Hmm. I'll take that into consideration. I'd really like to see what it looks like on my bike. Here's a bunch of swingarm bikes with sissy bars: http://www.chopcult.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23621 I would also like to see it without a front fender, however, the bolts seem to be really in there and I don't want to twist them off in the aluminum forks. I'll wait until I need to pull the wheel off to take the fender off. I'm also going to be putting fork gaiters on, so it'll make that job easier, too.
Fork gaiters rule. I looked through that thread and must say there are some nice looking bikes in there. I think I still prefer the ones that run down to the axle bolt, some of those bikes are built like that with the fender and sissybar mounted to the swingarm. I must admit some of those bikes looked fine with the other style too. That Ed Roth pic on the front page rocks. I really like that bike.
