Hey everyone, I'm looking to find this helmet and I can't find it any where in internet land. Obviously, I see Bell is on the side, but I can't find it for some reason. I think the gold badge on the front may even say BSA. Does anyone know if this helmet can be purchased anywhere, or was this a custom job? Thanks
The small veiwing outlet indicates a race helmet, likely for cars. I remember drag race helmets with small openings. I don't think it would work very well on thge street, clostrophobic.
I'm pretty sure it's a Bell XFM1. Made specifically for car racing, not bikes. Based on the style of the visor, I would say late 70's/early eighties. I actually sold one to a guy in the early eighties who wanted to wear it on the street. he was convinced that because F1 drivers used it, it would be the safest thing to put on his head . I tried to convince him that there was simply not enough peripheral vision to be used on the street. He eventually came to the same conclusion, and bought something else. Very heavy too.
I think it's at least late 80s judging by the shield attachment . Also before this the shields snapped down wlth chrome snaps. Doesn't say BSA and Bell wouldn't have attached something like that with rivets.
you will find that that is indeed roland sands and the badge on the front of the helmet says RSD and not BSA.could be a ruby helmet or his own commission from an old car racing helmet
That is a Bell Racing, Star Classic. Still available from Bell. First produced in 1966, the flip up visor came later in 1975, now only available in White, at $600
