they will probably fix it for the standard fee for that GPS, check the support page, but for an Etrex legend it's probably not worth doing it.

thanks for the reply. I checked out the garmin support site, they do repair etrex legends. Not sure if this price is the flat rate or by the hour but it said $79. I'm going to call them tomorrow and get some more info. I don't remember what I payed for this thing new, but you maybe right. It's prob not work repairing.

It's usually a flat rate. They just send you a refurb

I'd be surprised if you couldn't get another eTrex Legend for less than that on eBay.

You can certainly get a better, more modern GPS for just a bit more.

I wasn't aware garmin had a "support" section of the company, so I thought I would ask the knowledgeable people here.

Was the smart ass comment necessary? I didn't force you to open this topic. :asshat

just pry off the cracked screen and shape out a piece of lexan the same and silicone it in place.
I've done that on my gps and also with my Blackberry screen. The plastic they use on these things seems pretty easy to break IMO.

great idea. Ill pop the face plate off and see what i can do.

Edit: got the cover off, now to just find some lexan. Maybe I could have a glass shop cut out a piece for me.

For what do you use the GPS?

I've got an eTrex Legend HCx, which, despite the name, is hardly like the original eTrex series, other than it kind of looks like them.

Color screen, micro-SD slot, autorouting, geocaching features...

But you said you were looking at a Nuvi, so maybe you'd like something more road-oriented.

id mainly be using the gps on the bike. Id use my iphone in the car. From what I can gather, the nuvi 550 seems like a good unit for a bike.

I know very little about the Nuvi series, though I played around with one for a short time. The 550 does look like a good unit for the bike, if you mainly stay on the roads. If you're coming from an eTrex, you're in for a big surprise!
