Who here in the asylum also has a scooter - which one? - why did you pick THAT one? - can we see a picture please? thanks greg
Sweet Lamb! My brother used to have a series III TV 175. I have two old Vespas: 1963 GL150 1952 Allstate handlebar The Allstate isn't much to look at right now, but I'll have to get some picks of the GL. The Italians certainly knew how to build them!
2004 Skywave 650LX The Burgman 650 is known as the Skywave in Japan. The LX model features ABS. I have an R1100RT, but I bought the scoot because I wanted something that would be equally good at city riding and touring. The Skywave pretty much lives up to this expectation, providing huge storage capacity (115 liters with a top box) and weather protection, all the while being able to zip through traffic jams with no problem thanks to the twist-and-go transmission, and the electric side mirrors, which fold in with the press of a button. The drive belt is supposed to last the lifetime of the bike, and the three mode transmission (standard, power, tiptronic) provides endless entertainment. It's not as fast as the RT but it's a much better allrounder if you live in a city. The BMW's scheduled to be sold in December. [/IMG]
2005 Vespa PX150 limited edition (#469/500) and 2006 Yamaha 125 Vivo. The Vespa because it is Italian and so very pretty. The headlight on it is much better than my GS's. The Yamaha because I found one and because of its performance. Its headlight is also better than my GS's. Plus if you find a dealer who hasn't figured out there is a run on scooters going on you can get it for a pretty decent price. Both because of the triple digit fun factor. Smiles to the miles!
great posts appreciate the conversation about scooters in the asylum thanks hope there will be more folks chiming in as well greg
Owning a scooter is kind of like having a fat girlfriend...they are fun to ride but you don't want to get caught by your buddies. Just kidding.
Current: '05 Big Ruckus '03 Ruckus '04 Vento Zip3i - FOR SALE Past '03 Aprilia Atlantic 500 '04 Vento Zip3i x 2 They are all fun. Get the one that makes you laugh the most
I like the look, but wonder how much of a PITA all the tupperware would be to keep fresh looking. To me the BR is like a GS, naked & doesn't show mild abuse.
il Mostro, you have the disease!. There is a little Ruckus in the paper for $1300. What do yo think of that? I badly want a scooter with a sidecar though. Totally sick.
Yeah, reminds me of the Honda PC. I've seen a few of those with stickers that read "Body by Tupperware". Basically the same concept. Hide everything behind cladding. Probably some tip-over bumpers would be wise. Anyway, will probably just end up with some cheapo Korean or Chinese scooter thumper. Since gas has gotten to $3 a gallon, Mrs. Velo thinks getting a scooter for her to ride back & forth to work sounds like a good idea. She used to ride a Nighthawk 750. Got tired of that. Sold. Also had a TTR225. That also got sold. Then she had a DRZ400S. "Too much like a dirt bike on the street", so that has also been sold. Now we are kinda looking at scooters. But of course it has to be like the Bergman or something. She really likes the look of the Morphous (so do I), but ya really need to see it in person. Specks say it's seat height is only 25.8 inches!!! Hell, that's knee level for me! :eek1
I have a scooter Vento Triton R4 50cc the "and": I've always wanted a scooter, always had my eye on vintage Vespa's, but they were always not practical enough for the cost. On my budget, there has to at least be some practicality to my purchases. A lot of the reason I ended up with the Vento has to be blamed on Photog. She had a great insight on the 50cc twist and go scene from owning the Zip. From there, it was internet searching, and finally, found a local distributor. Going to see it sealed the deal. I thought it was cool, price was waaay right (less than the new mountain bike I wanted), and even T liked it. It's been a blast, and with no registration or insurance needed on a 50cc, and 80mpg quite a good town-errand-runner as well.
Pretty cool Doc. Besides, if you have that 'need-for-speed', you could always get a big bore kit right?! Still no insurance/plates, but the added horsepower (gerbilpower?) of an extra 30cc's or so.
I have a 05 Yamaha Majesty; good power, great storage and one of the sportier chassis/suspension set ups out there. Really comfortable and has unbelieveable lighting. Don't get one unless you like answering lots of questions from strangers...
I saw a 650 scooter the other day; can a 650 still be considered a scooter? If a 230 pound man rides a Honda Passport 70, can it be considered a scooter? Or does a scooter have to have that "Scooter" look?
