    Mate,

Interesting stats. Give us a yell when you stop over in Australia. Can put you up and show you some of the east coast.

Internet is sooo expensive here, so hopefully I'll get a chance to use it cheaper somewhere to post US pics and start rolling Australian reports.

Hey i readed all this thread and you are making a wonderfull trip! As you sayed in most places that you traveled fuel quality was poor/how does the GS worked with sad? he did any problems? Right now i have A africa twin and i never had problems with any sort of fuel i want to buy gs and travel with it in places like that but my friends tell me that a last two generations of GS cannot work with poor fuel. Is it true?

NOT true. Our trusty 1100 works down to octan 80 or even 76 in Iran. In Syria and some South-American countries I had to run octan 85, worked flawlessly. It is a relatively low compression engine, so no problem. Just some slight valve noise under hard acceleration, but that is pretty normal for a robust boxer. Bike is now 156 000km and no problems running bad quality leaded fuel quite often. You will damage the original catalythic converter, if you have one, but it will still keep going. I have aftermarket exhaust on mine (bike is 8kg lighter) w/o CAT.

1150 have low octane plug available and 1200 have knock sensors, so they also work with shitty fuel no problem. Just always carry a spare fuel filter - it gets clogged with bad fuel often (funny fuel pump noise is the first sign).

    Take care, Margus :beer

    +2 :thumbup Simply awesome.

I'd be interested in hearing about how you're doing this stuff. Where do you buy food and bike parts, miles per day, arrange transport, charge batteries etc. All the juicey bits....please.
