Which size rim locks should be used for the rear wheel?

  • 1.40"
  • 1.60"
  • 2.15"

And . . . the price is each, so I'll need two for the rear wheel if I don't want to add weights for balancing?

Are locks important for the front?

(I'm at work and need to finish placing my order but I can't measure my tire)

Mega-Thanks!

Don't tell anyone, but this used to be a favorite pasttime of mine and my friends when we were kids. We all attended Santa Fe, New Mexico high school which was built on a big hill outside of town and had a "campus" layout, many different buildings connected by wide sidewalks, stairs, etc. Several times we rode over there at night on our MXers with a couple gallons of bleach, soaked the tires, and did hot laps around the campus sidewalks. We'd air the tires up pretty tight to lower traction and the bleach softens the rubber; you could leave huge knobby powerslide tracks, skid marks, burn-outs, cool acceleration tracks of squiggly knobby tracks, etc. The coolest parts were you could tell how much air you got over the humps and calculate air time and distance from using the stairs as ramps . The next day we'd go to class and everyone would be talking about what hooligans had done all that . I was simultaneously proud of our work and embarrassed at our idiocy. Looking back ~40 years I see that the embarrassment has faded some .

Duhhhg

I ran dual rim locks on my KLX and I still needed weights to balance the tires. I'm running one Motion Pro lite lock on each wheel on the WR now. I use the stick-on weights on the rear and spoke weights on the front. I would run the stick-on weights on the front too, but there's no room for them. I am trying out the reusable kind that clamps on with a set screw.

I put Dyna Beads in the tubes on my KLR and they seem to work fine, but I didn't want to run them on a bike with rim locks because of the sheer volume needed to balance out the rim lock.

YRMV as they say.

It looks like to me that they use the WR250F engine in those bikes so they are not related to the WR250R/X in any way.

Bummer... that would've made a pretty good trail bike while at the same time uber reliable...

Yup, thats for the rear wheel.
1.60 for the front.

I just run 1 litelock in the front and back. No balancing.
Works fine at 70 mph.

"Are locks important for the front?"

I run one in front and back. IMHO: Probably not needed in the front.

WRr aux lights

I added some LED lights to the WRr. Why, well it is my only REAL bike and I work 3rd shift and commute on it, a lot. The lights are 40 degree spotlights 10w each and "rated" at 900 lumens each. I'm not sure what 900 lumens looks like, but the lights are bright and the price was right at $30 a piece. Aluminum housing with tempered glass lenses

I could never add a windshield - just another obstacle to hang up on every time I go over the bars.

That Windshield comes off in 30 seconds, and the way I mounted it, it is far enough forward to allow flippage over the bars without damage I still take it off for track riding and and add the crossbar pad. A 1 min job by the way.

Different strokes for different folks eh? I can't tell you how many highway miles I've put in with horrific winds - thousands for sure. My fairing was the first thing I bought after riding back from Palm Springs.
