found a r100 gs on cl that has a few things i'd like. seller says all-or-nothing. so if i bought the bike for the rack/luggage/single seat, how much do you folks think i could get for the rest? bike has 70k miles and appears to be in fair shape. might be an interesting exercise. thanks, pat
With the amount of GS owners on here, they will attack it like a pack of hungry wolves. All depends on what price you get it for. I am sure it wont last long.
I would like the front low fender and mounting hardware. If it has the bash plates on the bottom, I would like those too. Justin
If the price is right, I'll take the windscreen and the plastic housing for the headlight, speedo and lights along with the little box full of lights and fuses. Could use a right side battery cover now that I think about it. Along with any spare parts most GS riders accumulate. Please post a list if you could.
is it a runner? if so i think it's a rather poor choice to buy it for the few items you need and part out the rest when you can buy those parts for about 600 bucks or so.
yeah, i'm still waiting to hear from the OP if it's a complete running bike or not. shame on all you vultures for jumping on parts. lets help this guy keep another bike on the road.
Part it out! part it out! We all need to parts. You need the cash and another BMW off the road is is even better! Ok I'm only kind of kidding. Does the bike have a clean title? Does the engine turn over? If the bike is in running or near running condition Swap out your seat for it's solo Then fix it up and sell it. You get a solo seat someone else gets a new to them GS. Or do the good deed and let us have some of the parts...
had some travel and could not post for a few days...where to begin? --yes, it's a running bike with clean title. --yes, from many points of view, it's probably 'a shame' to part out a running bike. on the other hand, what if it becomes the organ donor that keeps another five bikes on the road for a few more years? i have not made this decision, just trying to run the numbers and see my best path. --i also like the idea of buying it and taking the parts i want and then selling the entire running bike when i'm done swapping out parts...might be the best plan. --so far, no one has come back with an estimate of what the parts might bring... --thanks for all the feedback. i really did not intend to insult the airhead gods with this question...had hoped it could be addressed objectively/unemotionally. truly sorry if i have offended. best regards, pat
No offense... we are who we are.... and we get what we want... PS FWIW I think you go with the buy/take what you need and want/sell the bike with your old unloved parts, and some missing parts.................
i'm not offended. you can do what you wish, it just seems like more work to buy a bike for minor parts and then part the bike out. why not buy it, swap your seat for the solo seat/rack, keep the luggage for yourself and then sell the whole bike to someone. way less work and you'll come out about the same and with less undesireable parts leftover in your garage. at least that's my personal experience.
this seems to be getting a lot of support. thanks. "why not buy it, swap your seat for the solo seat/rack, keep the luggage for yourself and then sell the whole bike to someone. way less work and you'll come out about the same and with less undesireable parts leftover in your garage."
And put some money in your pocket so you can buy some friggen gas and beef jerkey to go ridding. Fuckinay, do what you want. I laughed at the viltures, too. Too bad it wasn't a G/S and I might be clawing at it myself. .
