In 2011 the organizers of the Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally in Baker City Oregon mapped out an off pavement ride.
Since we had ridden most of the wonderful paved roads in the area, we decided to take the road less traveled.
From Baker to Richland where we hit the gravel highway called Snake River Road. My buddy took his RT.

Back on Snake River road to Huntington, a once thriving Railroad town, Howell's
cafe is fantastic. There was also a gas station which we didn't need that year.

From Huntington we headed to Malheur reservior.
The road was mostly hardpan dirt, heavily rutted with talcum powder dust in the ruts.
Not bad on the Strom but a handful for the RT. Storm clouds were gathering and we
wanted out before the road turned to gumbo, so not many pics.

We figured some hippies didn't make it all the way to the Ken Kesey shrine:

We returned this year with a Husky 610 motard and a DRZ 400s to hit more side roads,
    more pics, later:

In Oregon the "Basic Rule" applies. Speed must be reasonable and prudent for prevailing
conditions. Evidently you're supposed to slow down when you're on a gravel road.

Back for lunch at Howell's Cafe in Huntington, real ham & turkey with no air bubbles in it
and lots of chopped egg in the potato salad, just like Mom used to make:
