At $ 1,095 euro you can have it, I'd rather have a chain.

Yep, 1,095 euros buys about 3-4 chains. Nice concept though.

    Err, actually yes

But you're right, if bang for the buck's the main criteria, the conversion kit isn't worth pursuing unless you plan to really rack up a lot of miles :lol3

and have they been shown to fail on the Uly or F650 in dirty situations? I haven't heard about any...:ear

If there is proof let it be told, otherwise I think it is a huge assumption.:1drink

Chain + Automatic Oiler = Miserly Belt Alternative

The real problem with the belt conversion is that you'd need to ride the bike 100K miles or more to get your money's worth. I thought males were supposed to avoid long term relationships whenever possible. A very cool concept though and perhaps more buyers would drive the price down.

Are you asking if the belts fail, or if they fail in dirt situations? There are several threads around here about ULY belt failures, but not from dirt riding. Though one fella punched a hole in his belt off road, but managed to get it home before the belt failed.

But, if designed correctly, the belts are easily replaceable on the side of the road.(aka Uly, and F800) The same can not be said for a kit that would make the Vstrom a belt drive. You'd have to pull the swing arm to get that beastie off.
