Am I pushing it to put 7000+ miles on my GSA before I get the 6000 mile service done?

Plan to head out on a New England trip for a week and am at 5300 miles...just curious.

My gut says that "the magnesium panzer" will be OK. :D

    Thoughts, advice...thanks in advance

is your new England trip 700miles?

You'll be fine, it will just start to get a little noisy if you go over too much.

You can go 2000-3000 miles past service inervals without concern.

If you're worried about it, you could do it early. Looking at the service records for my bike I saw that the PO did it at about 5,500 miles.

Might serve as a good pre-trip inspection as well?

What model GSA ?. I would be doing a quick oil change if its been more than 6 months since its last service.

Says whom? Change the oil at least even if you don't change the filter.

I agree with Anorak. Change the oil at a minimum.

Says most UOAs...boxers are pretty easy on oil...a properly tuned boxer will go 7000-9000 on oil before the TBN is shot...oil would be low on my list...

The oil analysis is going to cost more than changing the oil.

Hell, in the time it took to put this post up, you could have nearly gotten the service done yourself. Only takes about an hour to do the whole thing. If ya get nervous thinking about it on your trip, drop me a PM and we'll get it done when you come through CT. I got beer.:freaky

Sir, what I imply is that UOAs on boxers typically show the oil is good for more miles. If you go to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/index.php you'll see some who leave oil in for well past the receommended interval. Most quality oils can go 2X the BMW receommended miles. We change our oil much too frequently.

Yeah, you can trust what you read on that forum because it has oil in the title. Also, you didn't imply anything, you made a statement. It's all apocryphal until proven.

I'm gonna take myself out behind the wood shed and give myself a good talking to before GB gets ahold of me.

Most everything on this site is apocryphal...except what JVB and I post...

Heck, come on out to Las Vegas! I don't know crap about doing a 6000 mile service except what I watched on the JVB DVD. Regardless, we'll drop it at the dealer and hit the local gentleman's clubs; you;ll forget all about the bike for a while!

    Have a fun trip!
