Well, what the hell. A few of us got called out for calling out those oh-so-mistaken riders who ride around with their pants on the outsides of their boots over in the Killboy thread :D

Truth be told, with my adventure boots and gear I ride with them tucked in, and would ride with my leathers tucked in if I still rode sportbike... but if I'm in jeans, I think it both looks dorky to tuck jeans in, and I'm probably just doing around-town low-speed errands where I don't want to look dorky, and instead wear my jeans over my work or cowboy boots.

We could even stand to read a few anecdotes of the mishaps that laces get us into.

Dorky, but sorta safer (especially if those are some type of riding jeans):

Pants over boots for me all the time.
I have on occasion caught my pants leg on the foot peg which temporarily raised my heartbeat a little but that doesnt happen often enough and I've been able to overcome it without falling over so I don't worry about it.
On colder days I have a pair of elastic bands that I put around my ankles to keep the cold air out. The boots I have now use laces so I feel better about keeping them under my pants leg..

    Summer > Pants In

    Winter > Pants Over

^the latter prevents water from running down into boots, also tight cuffs keep cold out.

Now if Klim would just make an armored, affordable, in boot pant that wasn't too expensive. Did I mention I didn't want to spend too much money?

A friend of mine had a little mishap one time.....riding with pants inside boots, peg caught top of boot....dragging him off the side a mountain.

I'm pants over boots,......... of course Hare-scrambles with Moto-cross boots and gear is a different animal.

Pants over boots, always. Water doesn't run into my boots this way.

good topic, I'm interested to hear if there are any decent motocross pants for cold weather riding.
currently i wear my pants over the boots, but my adventure riding cold/wet gear do not fit over my motocross boots and zip back up...sooo...

    For me it's:

    On a track - pants(leathers) in.
On the street - pants out.

If I fall off I want my boots to hold my pant leg down so no road rash. On the street I ride slower and don't want water going down my leg inside my boots.

If I'm going to do extended riding in the wet or off pavement, I wear Swiss Army gators over my pants and boots

Funny, I'm the other way around.

Summer- riding pants with or without jeans underneath- pants out, some airflow up the legs

Winter- which implies jeans under riding pants- jeans tucked in, overpants left out - keep the cold out, and keep the water from wicking up my jeans. I've been wet up to the knees from that.

Leather in the summer, gore in spring and autumn, both inside the boot, they wouldn't go over my sidi crossfire's anyway. How it looks, makes no difference to me. Having said that, a bloke on a different forum reckoned the crossfire boot's were too 'flashy', go figure!!

I tuck my jeans into my boots, but actually wear my adventure pants over the top of them.

Why the difference? Well my jeans are loose at the end and I don't want to get it caught on the footpeg when coming to a stop. My adventure pants have zips and velcro at the bottom to keep them really close to the boot, so it's not an issue.

I look like a bit of a nerd wearing jeans tucked into boots when I'm walking around uni, but I don't really care what people think of my fashion sense.

I learned on Tuesday that a 2000 Triumph Sprint ST is perfectly designed to inject water right up the over pants and fill your boots when you hydroplane.

    I guess I should've been more specific.

Summer> riding pants go in, rain pants go out.

Winter> layering pants go in, overpants go out.

So I guess my answer to the original question of whether I tuck my pants in or leave them out is Yes :lol3
