Hi all, Do to some limited mobility, I need a cot that is up off the ground a fair amount. The G.I. style cots are about the right height. My problem is their length when folded. Most seem to be 42-48 inches in length. I would like something closer to 36", if possible. Anybody have any suggestions on cots to look at? Maybe someone has a creative way to carry long items on a bike. I'm not having much luck figuring it out. Thanks! Murf2
Thanks for the replies guys. I should make my self more clear. Do to back problems, it is very hard for me to get up & down. For that reason, I don't think the go-cot will work. I've never thought of a hammock but as I already use a tent and other equipment I don't think I would be interested in a hammock. What I would like to find is a folding cot that is close to 16" off the ground that would pack to about 38 or so inches. Thanks again for your input. Murf2
Check out Byer of Maine Cots at: http://www.byerofmaine.com/products/camp-furniture/byer-camp-cot-comparison/portable-cot.html I have a Byer TriLite I've been using for 5 or 6 years. It's getting harder to find: http://www.thefind.com/family/info-tri-lite-folding-cot
Murf, Where do you live? I'd be glad to meet up and let you try out my Clark Hammock if your interested. I know it's pricey and not a cot, but it might work out for you.
What ever cot you get, look at the feet. Could they end up punching holes though the tent's floor, if the tent is placed on a rocky surface or on soft ground. The only time I've ever used a cot in a tent was with no floor or with wooden floor boards. daryl
I have one of these and it works great - packs down to 37" long X 5" diameter bag and supports 250lbs - REI carries them http://www.camptime.net/roll-a-cot.htm
protects the floor, is cheap to replace, and if need be, i could put it inside of my sleeping bag if it got too cold.
Thanks guys, I've been talking to Dave at Roll A Cot about modding one of their cots. Seems like a good guy. stevets, Are you happy with your roll a cot? Murf2
Yes - the roll-a-cot works great - i use it alot and it is very comfortable No issues with it - have had if for 3 or 4 years - keeps you off of the ground and gives a good nights sleep - I just put a thermarest pad on it to keep warm on cold nights - the cot fabric is a heavy duty mesh fabric that works great to keep you cool on hot nights without the thermarest Overall I am very happy with the cot
