I've been riding for about 8 years now and tomorrow is my first trip of any significant length. Well, it's not significant compared to a trip to Prudhoe Bay, but it's the longest trip I'll have ever done...380-ish miles from Pensacola to north Georgia. I wouldn't be sweating it so much if I was on, say, a Tiger or R1200GS, but I'll be making this trip on my GSX-R750. Wish me luck. And if you don't hear from me again it's most likely because I froze to death (still waiting on my Roadcrafter).

    Maybe he's an orange.:lol3

If you get cold, stop somewhere (like a strip club) and heat up.

Lots of friction and heat involved in lap dances.

Well, it's getting down to the 40s at night here, and I'm driving up to north Georgia where the low tonight is 36. That's officially cold when you're moving at highway speeds. In jeans. And a perforated jacket. :baldy I've got some layering clothes and a ski jacket shell, but I can't wait for that Aerostich to show up.

I'm hoping it's closer to 5 than 6. The earlier I can get out of work tomorrow, the better.

Oh, the other big worry I have is lighting. Not such a big issue on the highway, but once I get off and get onto the country roads, it's going to be DARK. Not much I can do about it now, but maybe one of these days I'll add some lights to my forks or something.

380mi should take you 6-8hrs depending on breaks and how much is on interstates.

i wouldn't want to backroad it after dark, that's really asking a lot of the stock headlight...i run HID and it's still not enough to feel entirely comfy.

you should be able to get some heated gloves at a bmw dealership, wire them up and they will make your day MUCH more do-able. the best money you will spend.

buy real pants...nobody DECIDES to crash, therefore you shouldn't treat riding gear as anything you ever have a choice of wearing vs. not wearing.

and seriously...2008 gixxer 750 and you haven't sprung for full gear?

No, jeans are not my preferred gear. I have an Aerostich Roadcrafter coming my way. I lost about 60 lbs. on my last deployment (and I'm keeping it off) so none of my gear fits me anymore. I do have a 1 pc Dainese I could wear, but I wonder if it would get uncomfortable after a couple hours in the saddle.

I hope you enjoy your trip! Only one way to figure it out is to do it! Took me years to get my gear squared away. Summer gear, winter gear and in between gear just takes time and money.

Don't forget, once the temps start to drop the traction your tires offer is greatly reduced. Have fun but keep that in the back of your mind.

motorcycle riding suits are designed to be comfortable while riding motorcycles.

stop trying to overthink this short hop...it's not a trip to the moon. throw on the leathers on top of a good base layer like under armor...cover up the vents with a rain jacket...and just ride.

380 miles is just a day trip, 2-3 tanks of fuel on your bike. You'll be fine. 700 was my longest day on my CBR...400 is about the max for daily comfort on those in my opinion.

    Enjoy the ride.

    You're gonna be just fine.

Just stop BEFORE you get too cold.

Have fun and be safe - and thanks for being willing to deploy. You Rock!

Get a cheap rain suit to wear over your gear, it will keep you warm enough for the kind of weather you're talking about. Doesn't have to be anything great since you'll have the Roadcrafter for your next ride.
