thanks, i think i had too much black on before and looked too blah.

all the newer bikes seem to have a white one in the lineup, i always liked the white ones for some reason.

wouyld anyone be interested in a cad drawing to mount an alternative rear light, i'm didtching the stock light for a MOTO LED EDGE2 Tail Light and using the original mount holes. i'm also ditching all of the silver plastics on the rear at the same time. A well as doing the 36k service.

I'd be interested in that. I had one of the Touratech LED inserts in my taillight, but it started shorting out on a ride in the Pine Barrens last fall. Shorting out the tail and brake lights will cause the entire dashboard to go dead, along with the turn signals. :huh I've been running a "real" bulb since then.

thanks JDRadman! im trying to keep the dakar simple and light. when i need to carry stuff on goes the backpack now. most of my rides are 200 mile blasts to the hills or to town to grab lunch so the bike is just right for me now. the dakar is so much better than my 1150gs i had before it for what i do. love the bike!

Just picked up my 2001 Dakar today. It ran great. I'm sooooo happy. Thanks for all of the great stuff on this thread. I'll post a pic as soon as I can. No problems with surge or stall. 12,000 mile service took care of everything. Already planning a nice trip for the bike. I can't just let it live a life as a commuter bike. The wife has even said she would do the camping thing with me.....yeeeeaahhhh.

Congratulations! I got my '01 Dakar one year ago yesterday. I've more than doubled the milage all previous owners put on in the prior 10 years.

Did anyone ever use 40 mm WP forks (afaik these were used on some KTMs before 1995)? I read about 43 an 48 mm forks, but not those 40 mm ones?

I am talking about the ones on the pictures (I do not know the exact model number/name, but they do have this characteristic red adjustment things, no idea how one would call those in english).

Is it leaking water or oil ? The water channel is in the front.
Like always, get it fixed sooner rahter than later. Take the head in to get it measured when it's off and skim it if it's not level.

Or don't bother and be plagued by overheating issues for the next few years until you take the head in and get it skimmed Listen to someone's who's been there.

if i had the money i would buy the kit but i had to go the chopper style way lol!
