Had a bit of snow day here today so I took the time to finish up my Ride Report from last September: 250cc to Phoenix http://simplytactical.blogspot.com/2011/12/250ccs-to-phoenix.html
I agree. I got a sweet deal on my WR because the PO's wife was having a hard time with it. I would suggest a Super Sherpa. I had one before the WR and I loved it. I got my girlfriend an XT225 because I could not find a Super Sherpa at the time. I got a good deal on the XT225 but think I would still like to upgrade it to a Super Sherpa one day.
I've just started picking up the Farkles - Skid plate, Rad guard, Sandman Case Saver, AIS (Thanks Krabill) and EXUP removal Parts etc. I want to address the tail light, and I really like parts of the euro setup. Anyone know where I can get part numbers for the WR in other countries? I found a schematic at A. J. Sutton http://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk, but they do not give part numbers. Would like to shop around a little bit. I may end up fabricating something on my own, but if there is a part made by Yamaha, well that might work... Also, anyone have the part number for the Shop Manual? Your help is greatly appreciated.
"That's why I put my gal on a CRF230F" Good Lord man, get her some gear! Those gloves aint enough! :eek1
I'll +2 the Super Sherpa, it's what my wife learned on last year. I was fortunate to have some friends with one that let us use it for as long as we needed to.
Thanks for the comments guys. I probably should have mentioned that she is 5'-10", and she can out ride most of the boys on a mtn bike on technical terrain. She isn't very strong tho, & is not fond of a tall or heavy bike, so something lighter & smaller would probably be better.
HF is correct....and you are correct! Your description of "how it is supposed to work" is spot on. However, HF's description of how it actually works is also spot on! I had the FMF PP, but no matter how much I fiddled with it, I couldn't make it "behave" like it should. Specifically, I couldn't get it to effect low RPM fueling (acceleration and full throttle worked fine however). But, the FMF made my bike impossible to start when warm (even with their "factory" settings), and by pulling it out my bike is back to starting perfectly, hot or cold . I now have an EJK that I have not installed yet (bike runs great without it), but I'm hopeful it will work "as advertised". We shall see..... -SM
Best bet for your $$$ is a Seat Concepts saddle. See the Vendors here. I have a Sargent and have had 3 SC seats. Far as I'm concerned they are both the same in quality, design, and comfort....EXCEPT Seat Concepts is way less expensive. Awesome deal.
WBN: Did you order directly from them with that link?? am curious as to how long they take to process the orders?? Thanks
Having never owned, sat on or even seen a Seat Concepts pad and cover set I'm going to comment anyway. The Sargent seat is a whole new seat, that means you get a seat pan that is much wider than the stock seat pan, that is the only way you can actually get a wider sitting surface that has support under it. There is the up front cost of a whole new seat of course but if you don't like it they have a pretty good return policy. If you do decide to keep it you can sell the stock seat to recoup some of the cost. Or you can do what I did, I had a Sargent seat on my V-Strom, I kept the stock seat and sold that bike with the stock seat, then sold the two year old, 50,000 mile Sargent seat for about 50% of what it cost new. It sold fast so I probably could have held out for more. It showed very little sign of it's hard life.
I just got a IMS 4.7 from Justgastanks.com. $400...not sure if there is a better deal out there. Does anyone know of any graphics kits that will stick to these tanks? I understand gas vapors can cause stickers to peal.
I do have a Seat Concepts seat and I'm gonna comment. I'm sure the Sargents is a better touring seat. My SC is only good for an hour in hot weather before I need to stand on the pegs and air dry my butt. 3 or 4 minutes and I'm good for another hour. If I'm trail riding I never notice the seat. I don't spend enough time slabbing it to need a "better" touring seat but I needed something better than stock and SC had it. I've had Sargents on other bikes and I loved them but I personally don't need one on the WRR the way I use the bike.
This is very true, you need to have a good idea of how you're going to be riding the bike. I plan on making rides of over 100 miles, maybe several 100 miles to get to a riding area and I usually don't want to trailer, so I do need a fairly good touring seat that doesn't get in the way standing up in the rough stuff. I've also been riding it a lot on dirt and gravel roads, those are almost all sit down rides and I will ride a good part of the day just exploring places a Goldwing shouldn't be. Riding the TAT or the CDR (and similar) is mostly sit down riding but have some places I want the best dirt bike I can ride there, I have more fun on the WRR than the bigger GS. But I do sometimes trailer to a riding area that has a lot of standup riding, the Sargent is good for that too. So is the stock seat. If that is most of your riding spend your money elsewhere. .
I want to vent and say I think FMF quality sucks. Tired of fixing the cheap design of the spark arrestor. Akrapovic design of securing the arrestor from the side is the way to go. Sure they are twice the cost of an FMF but you get what you pay for I guess.
Make sure you buy her the good gear too. It seems most women won't want to beat up their bodies just to go ride. Also, some women's jackets do not have armor, so do not rely on them for much protection from off-road items like rocks and trees. Knew a girl that dropped her bike on some rocks. Husband was beating himself for not getting her MX gear cause she hurt her shoulder. You probably knew all this anyway. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk and my finger.
