Hi everyone. I'm sitting here in cold Buffalo, NY right now waiting until I can take my 1983 XS650 out on the road once again. Does anyone own an XS on this board? I've been lurking for a real long time, and am curious to see what everyone else has got. I don't have any photos of mine yet, but will once it gets warmer out. This is something I'd like my XS to look like eventually.

Good looking bikes guys. Some of my fondest memories as a kid are riding my big brothers brand new baby blue 650. To be trusted enough to ride it alone at 14 made me feel like such a grown up. Ah... the 70's.

BB I really like your sig line. I'm not gonna steal it but I will borrow it for an indefinite length of time. :rofl

I own one too, it had highbars, old cables etc.

So I put on dragbars, changed the cables, gave it all a good clean up.

Right now I am waiting for my Pamco ignition and performance coil to play with :)

Looks like the one in the top banner, will see to get some pictures before long :)

My '79, I bought it new but sold it two years later. It returned home two years ago in need of a makeover.

    Not the best bike photo but it's what I had from playing TAG a couple of months ago;

XS650's make great cafes and street fighters. I like the basic look of your prototype, but some of the details strike me as odd - the leading axle fork, the overly-delicate front disc that looks like it should be on a bicycle and probably works like crap, screened-in porch sidecovers, and RV-World trailer taillight. But the basics are right on.

Yeah I think i just like the aesthetics of the bike. I don't think I could go that extreme with the build, but would be interested in loosely basing the idea off of it.

ReCycled: That bike is gorgeous man. Looks like Evel's XR750.

I have a 79 street tracker. Had a XR750 style seat pan, now I've put on a stock rear fender (going to shorten it) and either a brat style seat or a solo style with bitch pad.

Here is mine from last year. Bags are now black and mounted on an Olympic copy of a Krauser rack. The chrome bag trim is gone also.

I LOVE YOUR BIKE. What year is it? Where did you get your seat? What kind of tank is that?

Do you have any more pictures???

    This one's a beauty.
But even the handfull of pictures here shows that these are bikes you can really ride, in what ever way you want. It's cool to see how many different ideas people have about what they think a bike is supposed to be. This thing seems to work in any incarnation you choose for it. You won't find too many other bikes this versatile, yet still reliable and inexpensive.

I too love this bike! Do you have a build thread or more pictures anywhere? What kind of handlebars do you have there?

Lots of interesting items on the bike, nice.

Just out of curiosity, since you have a hand shifter, what does the pedal that looks like a brake (where the shifter used to be) do? Is it the clutch now?

I've got two, but they don't add up to one bike somehow. Nickel plated frame was the thing that sold me. One day I'll have it together and running.
