This was this morning. It is a 1990 Fantic 247. I was hoping to ride Semi this weekend. Get ready for our vintage next month. I figured those new `Beta`s` would give me a good run for my money if I can keep it running!! Small detail. I have to find a rear shock and Mcgyver an intake manifold as we are leaving Friday!
Hhmm, 25 year old bike. I only rode march and april this year. Drop one class. Be lucky if the bike will finish. Odds are in my favor!
This is very nice, I hope you get the bike sorted so quick ... these in comparison to twinshock bikes around ten year newer models have some additional technical features than can be time consuming to fix, here especially the spare part question. I recently also acquired an air-cooled youngtimer, (BETA TR 34 Jordi Tarres Replica from 1988) and found out that it is easier to find parts for most twinshocker then for this model, took two month to get most parts from all over Europe. The riding experience is cool too, the lightness and the more advanced riding position with still an engine that has some adjustable power output but can deliver also quick power if necessary. Sadly these bikes are often very well used and in first look have more the appearance of a pile of junk, (like yours as seen in the picture ). But when rebuild quite beauties in design and ride ability, (I 'am very addicted to any air-cooled machines, water-cooling is unnecessary crap in my personal view). I press my thump for you that you will get this bunch of metal and plastic running in such a short time.
Wake up Bob!! Time to spin some wrenches! .......or find a bearing or something....... Tick.......tick.....tick......
I`ve been out cleaning the pieces already. Damn petcock is all plugged up and the mice ate the air filter. Luckily the air filter is just flat. Easy enough to make one. Had to drill out a few bolts. So far just had to re-tap them. Still looking good, if I get most of it together today. The shock is still an issue.
Damn this is good. Let me know if any of my piles of parts could be useful for your pile of parts, Bob. They are almost guaranteed to be mice-free.
It`s going to take some parts scrounging to ever make it pretty again. Just trying to make it rideable with the parts I have. It`s been sitting here for almost two years. I rescued this and 4 other bikes from a 9 year stint outside in the weather.:huh
You are doing noble work Bob, It always makes me sad to see old bikes rusting away somewhere. Get it out and ride it, (if it's a guessing game is it a Fantic?)
