Crap Noah-Are you still riding two-up?

I don't know if cast iron can be welded, otherwise it's going to be a relatively expensive part...

    2008 690 ENDURO (AU/GB)
    7650303804401S FOOTREST BRACKET L/S 08
    115€ in Germany (about 160USD)

You're lucky it's not the other side, the brake side had a lot of changes over the years, so changing that bracket would probably have required changing a few other things as well.

What's with the 2 nuts on that bolt between the cast part and the rack? BTW Cast can be welded.

There is a threaded steel insert that was spinning. I installed studs because they don't come loose like the bolts use to. the nuts were just spacers to meet where the rack mounted.

I'm 2 up still for a bit longer.

Thanks Lukas! I have good internet now so we can skype tomorrow.

Do you think it was mainly due to the 2-Up? Riding 2-up is the only thing I'm sketchy about on the bike.

Time for some billet foot peg mounts... :lol3 :deal

Yep, all USA models came stock with MT21's. I'm assuming Canada is the same way too.

I know all European models are coming with Sahara's as well.

Perfect, thanks guys. I'll check with a string just in case. The MSR bottle is almost all the way full, so the sloshing in there is minimal. To keep the MSR bottle from rotating/spinning in the tube holder (which wears all the red paint off and leaves little metal deposits behind, I jam a strip of rubber (from a cut up radiator hose) between the bottle and tube to take up slack. So far it seems to work great.

I have wolfman racks, it appeared to have clearance but i broke my tool tube off this weekend, doing some small jumps. It looked like the tire hit it, mark on tube and on tire, unless it swung down and contacted it somehow, I think the tire hit it tho.

I just checked - from the top of a part worn Pirelli Scorpion to the underside of the fuel tank is about 25cm. Hanging a line from the tube down to the brake shows that the tube will not clear it. The distance from the nearest part of the brake to the likeliest contact point on the tube is approximately 18cm. Therefore there is a possibility it could catch but I've never heard of problems (a lowering link would have an effect though).
I think you would have to be going some to bottom out. I hit a block of concrete at about 70mph one night and went airborne for quite a distance. I was fully loaded too with camping equipment, clothes, tools and spares etc and two RR evo1 aux tanks with fuel. Couldn't see any contact marks on the tube and the rear suspension never bottomed out.

From what I see on my bike the top of the brake calliper (where the hose goes in) is the most likely point of contact. I can't see a tyre coming close unless you've got problems, but this is on Rally Raid racks. Were the bolts still tight on your tube? The tube didn't come loose and make contact?

Maybe all this should be on the 690 luggage thread.

probably lol. and bolts were tight, only the top bracket broke it was dangling from the bottom bolt possible that the marks came from when the top broke and it swung down contacting the tire.

My agri tube is on TT racks, and seems to clear everything fine, even with a lowering link, which I've taken off now anyway. Half the bolts came out the first ride after I put it on, and I was damn lucky to notice it in time, it was flopped over very close to the tire.

Why don't you just pour the 1 liter of fuel into the tank as soon as you have ridden however long it takes to consume 1 liter of fuel ???

Some tyres that go on these bikes are also a lot wider than that MT21

The Pirelli Scorpion Rally for example, or the Motoz Tractionator Desert H/T

Plus there may be some crap on the tyre

Seems like a lot of effort a single litre of fuel ... ?

Yes, sometimes we see a bit of "over-engineering" ....:D
