Looks like a good setup with a airbag for the Goldwing.

Safety is a real plus but not being able to use a tankbag is a big negative.

I am thinking its the real deal and probably the future. Personally I would gladly rather have a second chance at life than a tank bag. I would assume one would have enough handy storage compartments in the fairing already on the wing.

I know there has also been some experimentation with airbag suits in the racing world.

So... no one thinks in a header that the rider is going up and over? The only accident I had was on an HD and a head-on. The front of the bike dove down (of course) and I was a trebuchet projectile (landing on broken glass and some freaked-out woman's lawn). I suppose if I'd had an air bag my toes would have caught on it driving my head into the accident. Then, we're going to have people strapping tank bags on anyway...and with a 200mph bag deployment? If I want an IED strapped to my bike I'll ship it over to Kabul for professional instillation.

I don't the Wing has a tank shaped for a tank bag so that's pretty irrelevant.

There may be people who use a tank bag on a Goldwing, but they would be few and far between. I ride a Goldwing and don't think I've ever seen one with a tank bag on it.

As to whether the Goldwing airbag is effective or not, I would assume that Honda engineers tested this thing completely to hell and back; otherwise it wouldn't be an option on the Goldwing. Honda marketing seems to have its head up its ass, but Honda engineers are not dummies, and Honda's legal department is VERY risk averse. If the airbag increased the chance of injury rather than decreased that risk, it wouldn't be available.

Right... brought to you by the same geniuses who designed and sold about 45k Gold Wings with frames that cracked or could. Actually, airbags are probably effective on a bike as they were designed to protect car drivers who didn't use seat belts. Also, it looks like the design concept is different -- on a car the airbag hits you, and it looks like on the Honda, you go into the airbag.

But, the thing I like about the airbag clothing line is you can wear it to parties, church, etc., and just light the damned thing up whenever you feel like it!

    :lol3 YES!

It may or may not make riding any safer. But for some it will offer a perception of safer.

Japanese motor vehicles, particularly the higher end products, offer gizmos to draw attention or for marketing purposes.

The air bag vest for neck support is probably much better than this rear-enders delight.
    Just my ignorant opinion.
