speeding tickets in CR
Quote:
How's the "surgery" going? When you're bike is back on its two wheels, we should set up a ride we talked about. I'm off to Nicaragua this weekend, but should be pretty much free on weekends except for the occasional rides. Great RR you have by the way! I've riden quiet a bit in Nicoya, but still did not recognize some of the places you explored. I just read your post on speeding tickets in CR, and thought I'd give you a quick anecdote that happened to me a few months ago. I don't mean to hijack your thread, so I'll make the story short. I left real early on a Friday morning to meet up with a friend at the Paso Canoas border. After about 2hrs of smooth sailing at ~100kmh, I got pulled over by a cop (my first time in CR). I had no idea what speed zone I was in, until the cop pointed to the school behind him. Yikes! According to new CR laws, it was going to be ~$400 ticket. I tried the "no fumar espanol" tactic to no avail. As I was resigning myself to the hefty fine, I noticed the cop was wearing motorrad boots despite the lack of a motorycle around, so I sparked a conversation about bikes. It happens that the cop was a motorrad, but had an accident and was off the fleet for a while. After telling me his story and showing me his scars, he let me walk away - sweet! So my record is still clean to date in CR! haha. Enough hijacking now. Look forward to go for a ride and a few cold cervezas when you're available. Send me a PM. |

Independence Day 2009. Playa Herradura
Playa Herradura is a very nice beach at the Northern end of what is considered the Central Pacific coastline. At this time I had recently met what was going to be my future wife and one random day she said “Vamos a la playa.” I quickly found a way to justify the trip; it was the 4th of July, independence day and I am free to do as I want. Done deal, we’re gone!
We got a later start than one would like since it was a spur of the moment decision. We packed the needed clothing, made some samiches and we were off, over the mountain. It is anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half to Herradura from the Central Valley/SJO area. 1524 we arrive. ![]() If you hit the beach and go left, you are hanging with the locals. ![]() If you go right, you are in the enclosed and sheltered resort lifestyle of Los Sueños. Mega Yacht marina, golf course, hotel, overpriced beer, etc… ![]() You can have it. I am fine with my hammock, two palms, $1 beers, and a nice little dark skinned girl that ain’t too bad on the eyes or have an "hourly rate" (IMHO). Without further adieu, here is how we spent the afternoon. ![]() ![]() ![]() 1825 After we " 'ed" enough packed up and took off into the night. ![]() Few days later I had the crash in the above photos …Still alive and I am now married to that little morenita! More later.

New Bike, Inaugural Ride
The day begins on the bus. After 2 transfers and 3 buses I arrive to the DR.
![]() I have been working the past days on the rebuild process (Story Here). Finally at 3,842 kms on the new dash (add 41k from previous owners and the 40K-ish I’ve done for the assumed total on this bike) I rolled it out of the garage. It fires up and I make a few runs around the block. I do not note any more needed adjustments. It is time. Where to? First was back to Alajuela. I stopped and grabbed a kilo of Chicharrones and had to put on the rain gear. What would the first ride on the “new” bike be without a tropical downpour? After a huge lunch and a siesta at the in-law’s the wife and I depart. We arrive home. ![]() It wasn’t long before we were geared up and back on the road. ![]() Scooters need riding too. ![]() … ![]() After a 20 minute ride on fresh asphalt, twisting and turning through the mountains we arrive in one of Costa Rica's most ionic citys. ![]() Grecia. ![]() It is getting dark so time to head back. As we hit one of the many little pueblos in route Ana says to me “Este soda olìa rica.” So we turn around and stop here for a Coke and a hamburgesa. ![]() ![]() The bike is fixed! ![]() Where to go, what to explore?

This trip was to meet one of my Sister-in-Laws, Yesenia. I still haven’t quite figured out the roads back here but it was an overnight trip which landed us somewhere around here? ![]() Once again over the mountain via the 32, Zurqui route. Only now the winter rains were affecting traffic. ![]() We only crashed for the night. Nothing eventful and by 0630 we were on the road back home. If I am remembering correctly we just made this trip for the RIDE! DR in the AM in Sis’ back yard. ![]() On the road… ![]() By 0715 We are at this bridge. ![]() ![]() In this part of the country everything is bananas. ![]() ![]() Now this is how noobish we were, we took the same route home. Only this time stopped to snap a few pics in this valley. ![]() Where Rìo Sucio meets Rìo Limpio ![]() ![]() That was all for this ride… We are trying to squeeze in a “real time” ride… soon…

An International Surf Competition was the excuse to ride This was the first ever trip camping off the back of the Moto. Sad to say it was our last, but if I have my way we will be camping on the next ride… maybe.... someday... 0706. Off work and in route. Quick pit stop at the casa for a change of footwear. ![]() Upon arrival we set up camp here. ![]() In this area of the world the Scarlet Macaw population has rebounded nicely. ![]() We realized our camp wasn’t so intelligently placed. No shade and the coconuts fell with the intent to kill . We quickly relocated as soon as an ideal spot opened up.![]() By sunset we were running out of Rum and I remember the match of fisticuffs which took place over that little glass of Rum and OJ Note to self: half liter is not enough for two.![]() The experience would not have been complete without a campfire. ![]() 0548. A view from our front door the next morning. ![]() The Macaws were out in full force. ![]() Our Neighbors. ![]() I found this interesting… Swiss surf team ?![]() Ahhh, Playa Hermosa! Known for breaking boards and surf boards are not cheap. ![]() 1319, 02Aug. Back at the homestead. ![]() Hasta la Proxima Aventureros!

Nice little adventure - thanks for sharing Greg.
I miss the beach! Hoping to make my way out west to California (home) again soon. Atlanta is a nice place to live, but it's not LA.
