I have a knee problem that I will have surgically fixed in the fall. When I ride long distances, fluid builds in a pocket behind my knee. I can only assume from the vibration of the bike. I have a two week trip out west (all paved) and I'm trying to think of some material I can put on my pegs to soften the vibration. I have Adventure Designs Highway Pegs and Touratech Fastway pegs. I've been looking but can't seem to find what I need. Any ideas?
Guessing here, but you may be better off trying to isolate the pegs from the vibration . . . . some form of bushing on the peg-to-frame mounts?
Altering the pegs probably isn't feasible. Your best bet is to change your position now and then. Stand up. Stretch out.
More likely lack of motion is causing the build up. Highway pegs and passenger pegs. Use both from time to time. Maybe a compression brace too?
Don't know about the R1200, but the F800GS stock pegs come with a rubber insert that isolates vibration quite well. However if riding off road where you shift weight and position much you will find the rubber will allow your foot to slip off easier too. On the road I never found slipping to be an issue. If you want to remove the rubber for more grip, no tools required it simply pulls off to expose a typical steel toothed peg. Who knows, it might retrofit to the 1200? This second photo gives view of the steel peg and how much rubber is above it to isolate vibration.
It's not the pain that bothers me as much as the lack of mobility with the fluid. My knee gets so stiff, it's hard to walk. I am scheduled for a Cortisone shot and fluid to be drawn four days before I leave. At least I'll start off in good shape. Last time my Doc got 60cc off and it instantly made a huge difference.
