I doubt that. Motors are cheap. I picked up a Vstrom motor with 19K miles on it for $400. Even a 4 cylinder sport bike mill won't get over $1K.
Insurance company paid out in full for the bike plus all new riding gear, gopro & camelback. My gear was in worse shape than the bike but saved my bacon big time. I know this is a picture thread but I didn't get any photos worth posting as I was in ICU for while and couldn't move for some time afterwards . Bike got shipped off to auction by insurance company from the KTM dealer, haven't seen it since and don't really want to - breaks my heart even thinking about it. Feel some of your pain when yours got nicked in Ireland. By by Katie
Good you got new stuff! In US you have a chance to buy back the bike from insurance company for about 10% of the totaled price. And I'll give you $400 for your motor if you do
Not a set figure. I looked at buying back a Yam R1 when the insurance company totaled it and they wanted almost half of what it was worth new and it was a bike that had very few salvageable parts on it except the front end and motor (I was rear ended at a light by a truck doing around 50 MPH).
I took a solo ride and did 1400 miles over 4 and a half days. First time I've done any extensive pavement on the 690 and it did better than I expected. I hit everything from warm and dry deserts to snow in the mountains and a downpoar in a rain forest. Great bike, good trip.
Here is mine so far... Just installed the Highway Dirtbikes Rallye Lite fairing with a prototype computer mount! Thank you Paul, kit is pretty much exactly what I wanted. More pics and details at http://therosshallproject.blogspot.com/ EPMD
NF! Say it aint so. With all that free money why don't you look at the 700rr based on a 2014. Then get the RR 300mm suspension (set it up for 100kg rider, plus 25kg luggage please) And a Scotts steering damper And a RR rear tank and case saver. Throw on some rally pegs A nice comfy seat would do too (maybe with a sheep skin cover , that'll show 'em) Then get a custom gearbox to spread the ratios Heated grips Baja 700 lights and Unifilter Ooh, and an Acrapovic and tune And a G2 throttle tamer Some mirrors that don't mount on the brake and clutch perches. Good bark busters and a tail tidy too THEN if you still want the 500, I'll buy this one off you! I feel for you, yours was one of the first all kitted out, customised and riding around. It was obvious you loved the old girl. Shame to see it come to this. I guess with motorbikes it's not "if", but "when".
Frankly I'm torn between another 690 or an exc 500 - cant decide! its a real dilemma [/QUOTE] Why not both
Love it! My 14's all apart at the moment waiting for my suspension to get back. I sent it to Super Plush in San Francisco. The HDB rally light looks like a great piece of kit. How high are the new handlebar mounts? Also, curious about how the wind buffets around light fairing? Great website by the way! Added to my bookmarks.
HDB setup looks great... Me, trying to race. :) DSC_8470 by MaletaBG, on Flickr Bike actually performed very well, this was hard enduro race on Kopaonik mountain. This was only section that could pass as "mountain road", other sections were tight, muddy and steep forests and ski slopes. But definitely not ideal bike for this kind of riding...
Thanks. To clear the computer mount, you have to put in the 2 1/2" lower handlebar clamps. Compared to stock, I think it raises the bars approx 1 1/2" or so. It makes it much better and more comfortable especially while standing. Wind is definitely decreased, but it's not a full fairing... Overall I think it's the best for my needs. Some protection for both me and navigation equipment and maintains crash durability, when compared to say $4K fiberglass fairing kit.
At first I thought this looked a bit ugly...too upright. But now I think it's probably exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the link
