I used to have an Honda XL 125 (17 years ago) Great riding possition which has now lead to me getting a R1200GSA, But it was a great ride.

They sold them in New Zealand too y'know.I had one for 5 or 6 years - still kicking myself for selling it.

No name, it's called an XLV 750 R.

750cc vee twin, shaft drive Honda Duel Sport.

What other 750 V twin shaft drive bike can you buy for under $3000?

Got a couple in the shed, bewdy bikes.

They might not handle like a 100 kilo motorcrosser but I'm sure a well ridden XLV would go more places than a GS1200 or maybe an Africa twin that's only ridden by an average rider?

Now that is cool! Never heard of them. A R80GS killer? Shame those things never sold here.

I sold an R80 to get an XLV when they first came out. They were about the same weight but the Honda handled way better and was lot more usable in the bush.

So I see you have started rebuilding yours sharky.
I'm hoping to start getting mine back together in the next week or so.

Maybe we should have a XLV build off .

This'll be interesting.... in fact if I can work out how to post pics I might just have to add a few of Greg h's efforts on his XLV. Then again, he did sell his XLV and buy a GS1200 so what does that tell you? Just stirring the pot a bit

That says he's a dedicated follower of fashion , he's driven by peer pressure :huh , he's not a practicle person and he listens to all the yuppie advertising . Just stirring the pot a bit more.

Some might consider my last post a bit provocative, I didn't mean all GS riders have more money than sense, are driven by trendy motocycle magazine drivel and listen to the wrong people, just some.

When it all boils down we should be riding a bike that suits us, whether it's a CT125 or the latest Bavarian techno droid with optional electro/hydrolic brake switch and ABS optioned headlight dimmer. As long as it has two wheels we're well in front of Jimmy the car driver.

Wow !! Those bikes look great naked. Beautiful frames. I wish Honda had kept the "through the tank" air cleaner idea on the Transalps and early ATs.

and later model transalps (removing the tank to get to the airfilter - only honda would do that....)
For what it's worth , the XLV is a submarine - I have videos of one crossing a river with water up to the tank and still getting through , but so did my transalp (just)
