The thought came to me today, since we all like wrenching and riding these old beasts, why not have a for fun only mileage contest for 2010? We could have some sort of multiplier for the slower bikes to even out the field with the newer old schoolers. We could have a multiplier for folks in salty climates (like where white christmas means white with salt), so that those with year-round good riding don't get too much of an advantage. Nothing too formal, to enter we could just post a photo of the starting odo reading and then another for the end. Multiple bikes are no problem. Anybody interested? Any other ideas? Maybe someone good at thinking could come up with some official rules.

Update: Here is the link to the current standings.

    Link

To enter post year, make model, and mileage. When the riding season starts in your area, or you go for your first ride of the year, post that date too. This will give a better picture of the situation and allow for those who live in snowy/salty climates. Around here it is not so much the snow that hurts, it is the salt that keeps my bikes parked. I am still riding my scooter but it would hurt to see my bikes covered in salt.

Sounds like a great idea to me! What should be the cutoff year?

On the Sport touring forum, DavidLSi posts the link to and excell-like page which he constantly updates from our reports...

Here is the mileage thread, it works very smoothly.

Ok. I will get the spread sheet going this evening. No riding going on here over the next couple of days with all the snow in the forecast.

It is up. I still need to check my own odometers.

This seems like fun, so count me in. I will stop by and take a picture of my disassembled 1977 r75/7's speedometer. My goal is 4k between now and when I start the Cape Fear 1000 in April.

Nope, I headed south to Florida. I needed a stamp or picture of a national park to make my fourth corner state for my IBA National Park Tour silver. Had a great ride but realized around lunch I was going to DNF due to lack of bonus stops or be time barred if i continued my route so I had lunch at Jacks Cosmic Dogs and arrived in Wilmington about an hour late. I think there were the most DNF's the Cape Fear had ever seen. Made it easy on the scorers. I knew better than trying to fit 1350 miles into a 27 hour rally with a 3 hour sleep bonus. Made a great learning experience and should help me with the IBR 5k in august.

It is all posted. Check the table linked to in the first post and make sure your data is correctly entered. I have also added a column to mark the first ride of the season to try to even it out for those in colder/saltier climates. The end date will be the date of the final update of the year.

If anyone has any further ideas, lets hear them. :ear
