Everyone might want to check the freewheel assm. bolts on their 950. I installed the starter torque limiter and didn't check the freewheel bolts.

2005,it's my bike that I set up for street. I have just finished it. I took it on the first ride yesterday and this happened. I did run it up to about 140,would that have an effect?

    Absolutely......

On the street that was someone telling you way too fast....

If it was in the dirt I'm sure you would have been fine. KTMs are built for the DIRT. :deal

    :hide

Just kidding of course. Very sad to see this happen. :cry I hope we can get you sorted and back on that great looking bike soon. You know were to find me if you need anything.

To all 950 owners. Drop what you are doing and check your freewheel assm. bolts. This is getting ugly.

Wasn't there a Technical Service Bulletin about securing these bolts specifically using Loctite 648?

CJ, thank you very much for calling Scott. You don't find support like that from many vendors, you rock Sir!

I just got off the phone with him and told him to go ahead and drain the tank and check the screen above the left bottom hose connection.

I'm concerened how we're going to flush the engine, there's a lot of copper bits in it.

It made a little noise all of a sudden and went dead. No symptoms.

How would you know this wasn't done if you aren't the original owner and the previous owners did their own wrenching, like me? In my case 62,000 miles (half of those mine) and it's strong and quiet...should I disturb those bolts and do this anyway?

My thoughts are if it hasn't come apart by now it's not gonna, and perhaps disturbing those bolts is worse than leaving them alone.

    Your thoughts?

I have another 950 Adventure,it will be checked before I ride it again. The PO said the valves were done at a dealer at 10K. Who knows? All I know is that my 950 is a copper grinding sonofabitch. Will keep everyone posted on the outcome, I have some drinking to do!!!:cry

You know, when Sadlsor's came loose he put the bolts back in with the 648 and it came loose again. That's when I gave him the Vibra Tite VC-3 to reassemble it with. It hasn't gotten loose again after the Vibra Tite application.

Fwiw- I did the loctite fix to my drz after having this same happen. I used brake clean and acetone as prep, allowed 48 hours to set/dry, 1k miles later I opened it back up just to double check and one bolt of six was loose again. It seems to me that the correct fix would be to have the flywheel and starter clutch fitted with hardened pressed in pins to handle the torque.

Sends a chill up my spine just looking at it.

That really sucks. At first when I looked at the picture I thought I was looking at little worms and had to say WTF!:puke1

Is there really any way to flush the motor without splitting the cases to be 100% sure?
