Monday, we walked around and my GC looked at the glulam beam. It was starting to delaminate. So, we had to put a stop on sheathing the top deck. The rest of the garage was full speed ahead. The task of the day was to start to soffits and finish setting the trusses.
Is the glulam beam glue melting in the heat? I have heard of that with moisture but you don't have moisture there do you? it is really looking fantastic.
The manufacture engineers are coming out today .. to see if there is a fix for it and to certified it will hold the load. Not much moisture most of the time. We are in the monsoon season where we get a lot of moisture from the sea of cortez and pacific oceans.
We are totally under roof. Good thing .. it rain in AZ today. The framing portion is done. Rails are in. Bathroom framed out. Stair walls are in. Raised the flag this morning.. and all is good. Friends coming over for a BBQ and tour the garage.
Shit, in Arizona, any moisture will evaporate in 10 minutes. Nice work so far walkingbear, the stars & bars flying is a nice touch!

Great looking building so far, you're going to enjoy it. Wanted to comment on the huge 4x12 joists under the T&G pine floor- whoever designed that is to be commended. Looks great from both sides, and the framing lumber itself is gorgeous. I might be tempted to get up there and brush on some sealer or something, it looks that good. Loving this thread- you guys do stuff differently out west, but I like it.
we are going to seal all the wood once construction is done we figure about 20 5gal buckets of thompson water seal. Unstairs floor will be sealed and old fashion Johnson wax.

My last efforts before leaving on a short vacation: Comfirmed order for windows and doors. Ordering the barn door hardware for upstairs bath Order additional shower pan for bathroom, gave the plumber the plumbing hardward and picked the colors of switches and plugs. Those doors are solid core hardwood. Going to have a company cut out a hole in the door and place a piece of tempered frosted glass for the bathroom sliding door. The others will be cut down for office and door to upstairs. Picked the roof tile and signed the contract ( concrete roofing ) decided not to add additional windows to the north but to add 4 solar tubes that will bring in more light ( cone effect) 2 on the east side two on the west side. Windows and door bid are coming in lower ( I did the shopping) don't trust you GC to always get the best pricing . They wanted to get it done with out a lot of effort. Electrical wiring pulled and switched. May have lights go on next week. Being creative and using a full barn door type system. Will look very elegant . Colors : think ZEN mustard yellows , scarlet reds .. black , cherry doors. Found a cherry FUTON Trifold frame. Lots of light .. It's going to feel like a retreat away from home. High end sound system and 60 inch TV. Can't wait to move in.
Yes, in Scottsdale if you have a fire system in the main house you have to extended to the garage. $5K cost. Kinda sucks but then if it catches fire the system will protect the car, motorcycle and people
you will love those solar tubes. ive used them renovating an interior bathroom at my parents. that thing is great, lights up the whole room like its walls are nothing but windows.
