my small end was shot also. Just got it back from Vince at Mr. Crankshaft. He did a bang up job. Got the Pro-X rod. shipped it there and back in just over a week. Very pleased.

Anybody else see that the XR650R got a page in on Dirt Rider Magazine's November issue?? pretty neat!!

What's the general allowable play in the cush-drive clutch? Re-assembling my motor and it has a small rotational play, say 1-2mm.

Also, a little disappointingly, my ring gap in the new piston and reconditioned cylinder is near the outer tolerance, so on the loose side :(

Yes 1-2 MM is typical on the cush clutch.

Problem I am having is Idd like to replace my basket with a Hinson and they dont offer the cushions and I haven't seen a supplier that offers them?
I might just purchase a new Honda basket complete.
I suspect I am in the 3-5 mm range now on the cush drive (kinda sounds like a box of rocks at times)

I found that the wear is FROM the cushions, not ON the cushions. Fresh Hinson basket with the old cushions had it tight again.

I have had my XR for a week now... What a bike :clap:clap

It will pull the front tire in all 5 gears, only 5th is a little hard:rofl

Now the real question, will it take me to Panama and back?? Only one way to find out:evil

I'm needing a fuel screw for a 650r stock carb. I was looking for something I could adjust on the fly and don't know what fits the Keihin PE carb. Anyboy have any insight ?

got done reading your thread about what bike to get and your Black Hills loop RR. fun stuff, you have brass for riding across SD in November. The winds between Sioux Falls and Wall put so many big rigs in the ditch each year its not even funny. all they get are crosswinds. I found it kind of funny that you chose the XRR after all of the debate.

What do you plan on using for luggage for the XRR as it has an aluminum subframe?

    Good Afternoon,

I'm needing a valve job performed on my XR650R. I've purchased the Kibble White valves, seals, springs, and guides. If the existing valve guides are within spec, can I get by without having to replace them, or do Kibble White valves require the Kibble White valve guides?

    Thanks!

I tell you what man after all the debate I realized a few things. I rode that shit can KLR all over this summer and took it down trails it shouldn't be. It sucked and its boring and anemic. Then I rode a DR350 and a WR250R... Way better, but no power, yawn. Then I though about Euro bikes, but alas, I am too poor.

Then a light shone in the distance, the almighty BRP. Found a killer deal here on ADV, bought it in KY, rode 700 miles home. Here is the real kicker, I had never even ridden or sat on an XR before I bought it :D

I plan on a Giant Loop and either reinforcing the subframe, or building a new chromoly one if I find the time. Not that worried either way.

Other than the cam, did you go with stock hardware for your rebuild?

So I need new chain/sprockets before I head south. I plan to use Dirt Tricks sprockets. So how should I gear it? I want to carry 14&15 teeth fronts and change between the two. 15 for on road and 14 for off road. So what rear? 46,47,48?
