Great video there transalper,I've been lucky enough to do a bit of riding in NZ,and the Nevis road will always be one of my best days on a motorcyle, happy days.
The Black Forest Toll Road from the Haldon Road near Tekapo going south to the Benmore Dam. Adventure run by the Avon City Suzuki Shop in here in Christchurch. Video is 18minutes long, I wanted to keep the people in it as well as the track so making it shorter got too hard in a hurry. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yks9CuXrzW0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
do you have a GPX track of this ride? did you have to have permission to do this or is an open track?
Open track as far as i know - the Brass Monkey ride in my sig shows going this way was fantastic even for a noob like me! S
Have a look at this website http://www.adventureguide.co.nz/articles/12/209/black-forest-road.php It is through private land but this site gives you the contact details of the farmer etc, It also has the GPX
Hello, you need permission, there are locked gates that require a combination to open. It cost us $10 each to go through. Contact and gps files are available at Adventure Guide though his price quote is out of date. www.adventureguide.co.nz/articles/12/209/black-forest-road.php
Followed your signature link, nice report, lol, you should go back and read it again, you even mention the $10 access fee and locked gate in it.
So, a mate and I decided to trip around the Northern half of the South Island NZ on our XT660Rs. After a twelve hour drive in the ute with the bikes on the back & a ferry ride across Cook Strait we arrived in Blenheim on the 15th of Feb. Stashed the vehicle and it was off down the East Coast to Kaikoura to sample some local Seafood. The rest of the trip is below in photo form.
After coming out of the Wairau-Hanmer Springs Road we rode through to Westport where we stayed at the Black & White Hotel. Great old West Coast Pub. The next day we hit Greymouth and stayed at Revingtons. Both these places have lock up bike storage. After coming to a halt in the bush out behind Greymouth we had to go back and as it was late in the day we black stuffed it through to Christchurch. I lived in Chch for eleven years and hadn't been back since the earthquake so it was important tfor me to get there on February 22nd. What a shock. Spent the next few days visiting old friends and then it was back to Hanmer on Monday the 25th to go through the Molesworth which we did the next day Tuesday, overnighting at Cob Cottage.
